The hugely-anticipated rematch between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn is expected to take place on September 27 as discussions between the two parties continue to advance.

The British rivals locked-horns in a colossal all-action war last month, with Eubank Jr securing a slightly contentious unanimous decision success with all three ring side judges scoring the bout 116-112 in his favour.

Despite calling for an immediate rematch, Benn's promoter Eddie Hearn highlighted the importance of biding their time in making a decision over his fighter's next move, with the Matchroom CEO even suggesting a re-run with Eubank Jr could affect the longevity of the 28-year-old's career.

"The danger was with Conor Benn, and that’s why we’ve got to think very carefully about the rematch, because I don’t want to see him in too many fights like that," he said at the time.

"It was a brutal fight - both fighters left everything in the ring, and it will have taken an enormous amount out of them, both physically and mentally.

"Conor stepped up from 147lbs and traded blows with somebody who is a world level operator in the middleweight division, so we have to think carefully about it, and weigh this decision up with his best interests at heart."

However, Hearn has now confirmed that they are pushing forward with plans for the fight with a near full agreement in place for the bout to be staged at the end of the summer.

"I know September 27, back at Spurs, is a date that Turki Alalshikh has put forward and proposed," Hearn told Sky Sports News.

We're ready, really. We signed the contract for two fights. Conor's just desperate to run it back. He feels like he's going to improve a lot going into that fight.

"It his first fight in 14, 15 months, at 160lbs. Look, they provided us with just a night we'll never forget in so many ways, and both fighters deserve so much credit."

It's understood that Benn deliberated a switch back to 147lbs and a crack at a world title, with Mario Barrios, who is now set to face Manny Pacquaio this summer, discussed as a potential opponent.

The Londoner was also in New York City to take in Ryan Garcia's recent clash with Rolly Romero, although a showdown with the Los Angeles star was subsequently quelled on the back of his shock defeat.

Benn himself revealed that a second fight with Eubank Jr has always been his preference when quizzed about his next move on DAZN's Ariel & Ade Show, confirming that a deal was all but done for a sequel.

"As far as I’m aware, the contracts have already been signed," he said earlier this month.

"I’m hearing September at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, or Wembley Stadium maybe - the reality is I am ready to go again now, August or September, whenever it may be."

It's understood that the same rehydration and weight clauses are included in the contract for Eubank Jr v Benn 2, which is now expected to take place on Saturday, September 27.
