The latest horse racing betting tips for Friday’s meeting at Cheltenham from Racing Post tipster Phill Anderson.
13.15 Cheltenham - Willmount @ 11/4
13.50 Cheltenham - Ballygrifincottage @ 8/1
14.25 Cheltenham - Dashel Drasher @ 6/1
13.15 Cheltenham - Willmount @ 11/4
Nicky Henderson hasn’t won this contest since 2009 but he would appear to have a cracking chance with Willmount, who has looked like a horse going places at times in his career to date.
This Blue Bresil gelding followed up his point win with back-to-back bumper successes for Neil Mulholland in early 2023 and his yard debut for Nicky Henderson couldn’t have been much more impressive when landing a Newbury novice last season.
His run in the Challow when last seen is excusable having lost a front shoe in-running in that contest and he looks leniently treated from a mark of 130 on his handicap debut here.
Fitness is the main question for this six-year-old returning from the best part of a year off but he was a non-runner on heavy ground at Sandown recently and this quicker ground will put less pressure on his stamina for his return.
13.50 Cheltenham - Ballygrifincottage @ 8/1
A few of this field are out of the weights in the 3m2f handicap chase and the race has a nice each-way shape to it with just eight runners.
One that looks capable of going well is Ballygrifincottage.
Dan Skelton’s charge shaped like he was in need of his return at Chepstow and didn’t get far before an uncharacteristic mistake at this venue last time.
However, he’s given the impression on several occasions that he could be a force to be reckoned with over staying distances and the return to quicker ground should be in his favour as he bids to give Dan and Harry Skelton a first win in this race.
He’s a horse that’s still on an upward trajectory and he’s only 4lb higher than when narrowly denied in a competitive race at Sandown last season.
14.25 Cheltenham - Dashel Drasher @ 6/1
The Veterans’ Handicap Chase on the card has attracted a decent field once again and there’s an argument to say that Dashel Drasher should be favourite for this race.
He always needs his reappearance outing, so it was no surprise to see him beaten at Ascot but it was a creditable effort, beaten by just four lengths and he’s won second time out in three of the last four seasons.
The handicapper has started to relent with this admirable, consistent chaser and he’s now on his lowest handicap mark for three years.
Given that he managed to win a Grade 2 hurdle last season, he clearly retains plenty of ability and he looks leniently treated from a mark of 149.
