Henry De Bromhead Trainer - Horses, jockeys, record, statistics, winners and earnings

Henry de Bromhead is one of the most talented trainers of his generation and has already saddled multiple Cheltenham Gold Cup winners and an Aintree Grand National scorer.

De Bromhead is renowned within National Hunt racing for being able to get his team to peak at just the right time, routinely in spring when Cheltenham and the other major festivals come along.

He is heavily decorated and, together with long-time ally Rachael Blackmore, has formed one of the best-known partnerships in jumps racing.

Who is Henry de Bromhead?

Henry de Bromhead has established himself as one of Ireland's best-loved and most talented trainers in almost a quarter of a century since he took out his license in 2000.

Based at Knockeen in Co Waterford, Henry took over from his father having spent time with Robert and Sally Alner, Sir Mark Prescott and the world renowned Coolmore Stud in his youth.

Henry returned to Waterford and took over the licence from his father on the first day of the new millennium and sent out a winner with his first runner that day in Tramore.

He got his first Grade 1 winner in 2008 when Sizing Europe won the Irish Champion Hurdle and those top-level prizes have flowed generously in recent times despite coming against powerhouse duo Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott on a daily basis.

He has 23 winners at the Cheltenham Festival, including two Gold Cups, two Champion Hurdles and four Queen Mother Champion Chases.

He has also won the Grand National at Aintree and a host of Grade 1 prizes in Britain and Ireland, including five Irish Champion Hurdles.

Who is Henry de Bromhead's stable jockey

De Bromhead's stable jockey is Rachael Blackmore, the pioneering, barrier-breaking torchbearer for female jockeys.

Blackmore has written her name into National Hunt folklore, being crowned leading rider at the Cheltenham Festival in 2021 and, a month later, become the first female rider to win the Grand National at Aintree as Minella Times scored and helped makes headlines worldwide.

Blackmore has been commonly associated with the biggest and brightest talents to emerge from de Bromhead's base at Knockeen across recent seasons and their alliance is treasured amongst fans of jumps racing.

Henry de Bromhead's Cheltenham Festival winners

De Bromhead's breakthrough in the Cotswolds came in 2010 when Sizing Europe won the Arkle, atoning for a desperately disappointing run in the Champion Hurdle two years earlier, when he had started favourite but was pulled up.

Sizing Europe returned a year later to win the Queen Mother Champion Chase and de Bromhead now has four wins in the two-mile Championship contest via Special Tiara (2017), Put The Kettle On (2021), Captain Guinness (2024).

He sent out Honeysuckle to win the Champion Hurdle in 2021 and 2022, while the outstanding mare also won two Mares' Hurdles and was unbeaten at the Cheltenham Festival, signing off her career with a powerful display in the Mares' contest in 2023 amid a powder-keg of emotion just months after the de Bromhead family suffered the tragic loss of their son, Jack, in a pony riding accident.

In 2021 and 2022, de Bromhead saddled the one-two in successive Gold Cups as Minella Indo and A Plus Tard traded places, while he has also won the Ryanair Chase twice with Balko des Flos (2018) and Envoi Allen (2023) as well as the Supreme Novices' Hurdle in 2024 with Slade Steel.

An incredible 19 of de Bromhead's 23 Cheltenham Festival wins have come in Grade 1 contests.

Henry de Bromhead's Grand National winners

In 2021 the de Bromhead-trained Minella Times made headlines around the world when he carried Blackmore to glory in the Grand National at Aintree.

The JP McManus-owned gelding was sent off 11/1 and fended off his stablemate, Balko Des Flos, under Aidan Coleman to win. With Blackmore on board, the story gained enormous traction as she became a beacon for women in racing and, indeed sport as a whole.

Henry de Bromhead's best horses

Sizing Europe was the original trail-blazer for the team at Knockeen but many great horses have followed.

Alongside Honeysuckle, the darling of Irish racing for so long, de Bromhead's star mares have included Arkle and Champion Chase winner Put The Kettle On and Cheltenham winner Telmesomethinggirl.

Bob Olinger is a dual Cheltenham Festival scorer that could be headed for the Aintree meeting this spring, while A Plus Tard and Minella Indo were both Cheltenham winners before they landed their Gold Cups.

On home soil, Petit Mouchoir was another Irish Champion Hurdler, while Monalee and Sizing John also gained major prizes, with the latter moving to Jessica Harrington before he won his Irish, Cheltenham and Punchestown treble in 2017.

Henry de Bromhead's career earnings

In the last five seasons de Bromhead has earned €9.4m in prize-money in Ireland over jumps and another £4.3m on British soil.
