Chelsea v Newcastle: Predictions, Tips and Odds

Mauricio Pochettino is under increasing pressure at Chelsea and the tests continue to come thick and fast for the Argentinian with his side hosting Newcastle on Monday night.

The Blues were held to a 2-2 draw by Brentford last time out, meaning they have won just one of their last four games in all competitions, losing the EFL Cup final to Liverpool as part of that run.

As for Eddie Howe's visitors, a place in the top five of the Premier League is looking increasingly unlikely, although they eased to a 3-0 win over Wolves in the league last Saturday and have booked their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Both teams have blown hot and cold this season and it's a tricky one to call at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea v Newcastle betting tips and predictions

Newcastle to score over 1.5 goals  - 6/5

Picking a winner in this match is tricky given the inconsistencies of both teams this season and for those unsure about backing a match winner, goals could be the way to go.

And a bet on Newcastle to score at least twice at Stamford Bridge looks a good bet at 6/5.

Chelsea have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last eight games in all competitions, while they have shipped 12 times in their last five matches in the Premier League.

Their last home game in the top flight was against Wolves at the start of February and they were humiliated in a 4-2 defeat.

There is certainly cause for concern at the back and Chelsea's defensive issues will not be helped by the absence of Levi Colwill and Ben Chilwell on Monday night.

The pair join a growing list of absentees for the Blues, who could struggle to keep out the visitors.

Newcastle have scored at least twice in seven of their last eight games in the Premier League and with 11-goal Alexander Isak leading the line, they are worth backing to bag another couple against Chelsea, having won the reverse fixture 4-1 at St James' Park earlier this season.

Newcastle draw no bet - 13/8

For those who do want to back the match result, Newcastle draw no bet could be the way to play it at 13/8.

It involved backing the Magpies but stakes are returned in the event of a draw and the visitors look like the most likely winners in this game.

Chelsea are not in a good place, having won only three of their last nine matches in all competitions.

Pressure is mounting on Pochettino, and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville labelled them "billion-pound bottle-jobs" following their EFL Cup Final loss to injury-hit Liverpool.

Fans are not content and that will be most apparent in home games, so Chelsea are unlikely to gain much from playing this fixture at Stamford Bridge.

They have collected the same number of points at home and away (18) in the league this season and they are worth opposing at their London base on Monday.

Bruno Guimaraes to be booked - 15/8

December's meeting between Chelsea and Newcastle in the EFL Cup produced six yellow cards and it would be no surprise if the cautions are thrown around when they reconvene.

Bruno Guimaraes was one of the players to be shown a yellow card in that fixture and the Brazilian is a good bet to be booked on Monday at 15/8.

He has been shown nine yellow cards in the Premier League this season - only Joao Palhinha (11) of Fulham had more going into this weekend.

And while Chelsea are short on star quality this season, Guimaraes will be up against a testing midfield featuring Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, so do not be surprised if he is drawn into the odd cynical foul at Stamford Bridge.
