The next of Chelmsford's popular Thursday night meetings is an eight-race card and bet365 are thrilled to be among the sponsors at the Essex track.
The latest horse racing betting tips for tonight's all-weather card at Chelmsford from Racing Post tipster Graeme Rodway.
6:15 – Further Measure @ 4/1
8:15 – All Agleam @ 3/1
8:45 – Orbital @ 7/1
6:15 – Further Measure @ 4/1
The 1m6f handicap (6.15) has attracted a good field and the one to be on is FURTHER MEASURE, who has been running consistently well recently and is expected to break his long losing run.
It's nearly a year since his last success at Wolverhampton, but he is 9lb lower now and has been threatening to take advantage of his fall in the weights with seconds in three of his last four starts.
Two of those runner-up finishes came at this course and he had the re-opposing Grand Duchess Olga in behind when second to Taxiing last month. He followed that up with another good effort when beating all bar subsequent winner Wannabe Brave here two weeks ago. A 1lb rise is far from harsh.
Those runs were over 2m, but Further Measure has recorded all of his wins over shorter trips and his last success came at this distance. The return to 1m6f might therefore do the trick this evening.
8:15 – All Agleam @ 3/1
The best bet of the night runs in the 7f handicap (8.15), where the three-year-old ALL AGLEAM appears to have an outstanding chance on her return to the all-weather for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy.
All Agleam has form figures reading 2331 on the all-weather and her last win came over this 7f trip at Lingfield in January. She is evidently well suited by this trip and the Polytrack surface.
It's therefore easy to put a line through her recent disappointing run at Chester, which came over an inadequate 6f on turf. She also probably needed the outing as it was her first since January.
She appears to have been given a chance by the handicapper, following a 1lb drop in the weights for that latest effort, and there is every chance she can bounce back now she is turned back out quickly.
8:45 – Orbital @ 7/1
The It's Never Ordinary At bet365 Handicap (8.45) over 7f is a cracking race and the well-bred ORBITAL, who is from the family of top-class filly Inspiral, is fancied to break her maiden off top weight.
Sir Mark Prescott's string often hits form in midsummer and he already has an impressive strike-rate in the last fortnight, so there is a good chance that he will have Orbital at her best for this assignment.
Orbital showed plenty of ability over this 7f trip in three starts on the all-weather last season without getting competitive, and took a small step forward on her seasonal reappearance at Wolverhampton.
That came over 1m½f in April and she shaped well for a long way before fading late on. Either she was badly in need of that first run since last September or she didn't stay the extra distance.
Connections must think she didn't see out the trip as they send her back over 7f here and Orbital is open to plenty of further improvement with that return under her belt.
A wide draw in stall ten isn't ideal and Fred Daly is a relatively unknown 7lb claimer in the saddle, but the jockey already has a win and a place from five rides for Prescott and can clearly do the job.
