There are five meetings in Britain and Ireland on Tuesday, and the action should be competitive, with the pick of it coming from Leicester, where Ryan Moore is riding.
The latest horse racing betting tips for Tuesday’s racing from Racing Post tipster Graeme Rodway.
14:50 Catterick – Good Point @ 10/1
16:14 Leicester – Islanova @ 13/2
18:00 Newcastle – Titainium @ 15/8
14:50 Catterick – Good Point @ 10/1
The 5f handicap (14:50) comes up next at Catterick and the one to be on here is Good Point, who has dropped to a career-low rating in handicaps and shaped like he could cash in at Beverley last month.
Good Point was returning from a 64-day break on that occasion and helped set a strong pace. He was still in with every chance at the half-furlong pole, and it was only late on that his lack of a recent outing seemed to take its toll, as he lost third in the final strides.
Nevertheless, that was a superb run following such a layoff and Good Point has dropped 2lb in the weights, despite shaping like he would improve significantly with that outing under his belt.
Good Point hit form at this time last year on soft and heavy ground, so with conditions set to suit, there is every chance he can build on his promising return. That is especially true, given he will be coming from stall nine, and wide is often the place to be at Catterick when the going is soft.
16:14 Leicester – Islanova @ 13/2
The 1m2f fillies’ handicap (16:14) at Leicester is the feature race of the day and it looks worth following Ryan Moore and Sir Michael Stoute, who team up with the lightly raced Islanova.
She is still a maiden after six starts but has recorded two of her three highest Racing Post Ratings recently, and that includes a clear second in a novice at Wolverhampton last month.
Islanova was well beaten by winner Samra Star, but she pulled nicely clear of the remainder of the field in a solid time for the grade and proved she stays 1m1½f in the process. This will be her first attempt over 1m2f and there should be more to come at the trip as she is bred to get this far.
Her five half-siblings all recorded RPRs of at least 90 and three of them were rated in the 100s, so Islanova is bred to be a lot better than her current mark of 78 and is fancied to cash in on her rating.
18:00 Newcastle – Titainium @ 15/8
The 1m2f handicap (18:00) at Newcastle provides a good opportunity for Titainium, who was a course winner over 7f in June and has shown improved form over this 1m2f trip recently.
Titainium equalled his previous career best when second in a 1m2f handicap at Ayr on his first start at the distance last month and then bettered that run to score off the same mark at Redcar last time. He made most of the running that day and kept on strongly to win nicely.
That form has already been franked by the runner-up Young Fire, who won a 17-runner handicap at York on Sunday from a 4lb higher mark. That suggests that Titainium is well capable of defying a 4lb rise, especially as he is still lightly raced after only eight outings.
Trainer Grant Tuer has struck with five of his last 12 runners for a 42 per cent strike rate, and Titainium looks to have an outstanding chance to give the red-hot stable yet another winner.
