Cardiff v Sunderland: How to watch, TV channel, head-to-head stats & team news

Cardiff and Sunderland will begin their 2024/25 Championship campaigns in front of the live television cameras on Saturday lunchtime.

Just six points separated the two sides last season as the Bluebirds impressive second half of the campaign hauled them up and above the Black Cats in the league table.

Sunderland had been knocking on the door of the playoffs for much of the campaign, but were forced to settle for a disappointing 16th place finish, with Cardiff ending the term four places higher, in 12th.

Surprisingly, the away side in this fixture has claimed all three points from each of the past four meetings, with Sunderland registering a 2-0 success in South Wales in March after Cardiff had earned a narrow 1-0 victory in the North East.

Even more intriguing is the fact that the home side haven't scored a single goal across those four meetings either, although the Bluebirds did put four past the Black Cats the last time they prevailed on home soil back in January 2018.

Sunderland, now under the guidance of Frenchman Regis Le Bris, held Marseille to a 2-2 draw in their final pre-season friendly, with Cardiff seeing off Bristol Rovers last time out, having also registered an impressive 3-0 triumph over German side Hamburg during the summer.

Cardiff team news

The Bluebirds could hand competitive debuts to as many as five new signings this weekend with the likes of Calum Chambers, Wilfried Kanga and Chris Willock all expected to start.

Fellow summer acquisitions Alex Robertson and Anwar El Ghazi are also expected to be in the matchday squad.

Sunderland team news

Sunderland remain without the services of Jenson Seelt for the start of the campaign, with the centre-back picking up a serious injury in early March.

Regis Le Bris is however able to call upon former Preston captain Alan Browne and ex-Leeds man Ian Poveda however, after the pair inked long-term deals at the Stadium of Light during the summer.
