Captain Guinness 33/1 to win 2025 Champion Chase after 2024 triumph

After his win in the 2024 Champion Chase, we have priced up Captain Guinness at 33/1 to retain his crown at the 2025 Cheltenham Festival.

We were awaiting the resumption of the rivalry between El Fabiolo and Jonbon on Wednesday afternoon, but after the latter was declared a non-runner, the stage was seemingly set for El Fabiolo to earn Willie Mullins his 100th Cheltenham Festival winner.

An unfortunate landing put paid to his race as he was pulled up, leaving the door open for the other five in the field to claim Wednesday's big prize.

Captain Guinness had finished third in the Arkle three years ago before finishing second to Energumene in last year's race.

Rachael Blackmore was on board the 17/2 shot for Henry de Bromhead and after Edwardstone was a faller at the final fence, it was a straight battle between Captain Guinness and outsider Gentleman De Mee.

But it was Captain Guinness who stayed on to complete a stunning victory, with de Bromhead hoping his nine-year-old can now follow in the footsteps of Energumene, Altior and Master Minded, who have all won back-to-back Champion Chases in recent years.
