Canelo Alvarez… Gennady Golovkin; the trilogy, what a fight, what a night!

Two of the sport’s pound-for-pound greats going at it in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada, for all of the super-middleweight marbles.

The big question… will there be a different ending to the second fight, will there be a knockout? Personally, I don’t think so, but we may be shocked.

Despite the greater opinion, I actually thought Canelo won the first fight, and then stepped it up in the second and won again with an outstanding performance that, at the time, I didn’t believe he had in him.

This weekend, I’d expect Canelo to be the one that pulls it off for a second time. Does he get the stoppage though? Only time will tell.

The thing with Canelo is that he has shown that he can step it up against ‘GGG’, he did that in the second fight four years ago.

But in more recent times there have been moments where you have to question whether his standards are starting to slip a little bit.

Two of his last three performances have not been vintage Canelo performances. Is he on a downward slide, we don’t know.

He comes into this fight eight years younger than Golovkin, and age is a massive thing in boxing, I don’t care what anybody says!

As I was getting older, I realised I had the skill, I had the knowledge and the nous of knowing what to do, but I didn’t have the pace and pace is the only thing you can’t negotiate, play with or mimic.

Boxing Exclusive: Canelo Alvarez tells bet365 he wants to KO Gennady Golovkin this weekend

Mexican superstar speaks exclusively to bet365 as he bids to write an emphatic final chapter to one of boxing's most enthralling trilogies.

When you eventually come up against someone that has pace on you, even if they’re not a better fighter, then they’re going to get you at some point, and that has to be the worry for Golovkin.

Canelo is a great fighter, he has pace, and whilst ‘GGG’ boasts huge experience, at 40 years of age, I believe that is going to be to his detriment rather than to his benefit.

Listen, this might be the night where he can pull it out of the bag and it all comes together for him, but speaking from experience, age does you absolutely no favours in these situations.

That’s why I believe Canelo gets the win. I don’t think he will stop Golovkin, but if he does manage to do so, then it will be late on in the fight.

It’s got the makings of another 12-rounder, with Canelo getting the win via a unanimous decision.

I am also excited and intrigued to Jesse Rodriguez on the undercard – he looks the real deal, and at just 22, time is very much on his side.

Saturday night (early hours Sunday morning in the UK), is a showcase for Rodriguez, and an opportunity for the world to acquaint themselves with a future world champion!

He is very skilled, but there are a lot of brilliant fighters out there that the world doesn’t know about.

Look at Canelo for example. When he first came onto the scene, nobody really knew about him – he needed the opportunity to be showcased, and this weekend is Rodriguez’s chance to really put himself out there.

We will all get the chance to form an opinion on him and get the measure of him amongst the best out there.

It is a night of boxing I simply cannot wait for.

Canelo is the heavy bet365 favourite to reign supreme at the T-Mobile Arena this weekend, 1/6 to win the fight by any means. Golovkin meanwhile, is undoubtedly the underdog, priced at 7/2.
