Canelo Alvarez has been installed as the odds-on favourite to establish himself as the WBC super-middleweight champion when he tackles Christian Mbilli in Riyadh this weekend.
The Mexican sensation will stage his return to the sport on Saturday night following a 13-month long layoff.
Canelo hasn't fought since being comprehensively beaten by American Terence Crawford in blockbuster stateside superfight last September.
However, having now had time to regroup and plot his path back to the summit of the 168lbs division, the 36-year-old is back.
He faces the dangerous Frenchman Mbilli in the Middle East, with the former 'interim' titlist hoping to ensure a triumphant start to his reign as WBC supremo after being upgraded to full champion.
Crawford's decision to hang up his professional boxing gloves earlier this year culminated in Mbilli's coronation, although he couldn't have envisaged a more testing maiden defence than against 10/33 favourite Canelo.
The four-weight world champion was, of course, previously in possession of the fabled green and gold belt, but was relinquished of it, alongside the WBO and IBF belts, following his loss at the hands of the unbeaten Crawford.
He's now on the hunt to re-establish himself as the ruler of the super-middleweight class, and is the odds-on favourite to kick-start his rebuild with victory over 12/5 outsider Mbilli.
Canelo had previously built a reputation as being a ferocious, knockout artist, however, it's worth noting that he hasn't stopped an opponent inside the scheduled distance in five years now.
The last time he managed to do so was back in November 2021 when he halted Caleb Plant in the 11th round of their contest at Las Vegas' fabled MGM Grand venue.
In Mbilli, Canelo will be aware of the level of operator trading level with him.
Despite being held to a draw by Lester Martinez earlier this year, the hard-hitting European has never been beaten within the paid ranks, and will quietly be fancying his chances of securing what would be by far the biggest victory of his career to date.
