Canelo Alvarez (1/6) believes he will stop fierce rival Gennady Golovkin (7/2) inside the distance as the two fighters prepare to lock horns in an iconic trilogy fight in Las Vegas this weekend.

The Mexican superstar is looking to cement his legacy within the super-middleweight division in the early hours of Sunday morning by retaining his undisputed world crown and inflicting a first ever stoppage defeat upon his Kazakhstani rival.

The two boxing powerhouses first met in 2017 with the bout ending in a controversial draw, before Canelo reigned supreme in the rematch 12 months later, albeit in equally as contentious circumstances.

However, the 32-year-old has exclusively told bet365 that he will leave no stone unturned in his bid to notch up a far more comprehensive victory at the T-Mobile Arena this time around.

“I want to win this fight before the 12 rounds,” he told us at the pre-fight press conference in Sin City on Thursday.

“Winning convincingly is enough for me, but my intention is to finish the fight before the end of the 12 rounds, and hopefully the opportunity to do that will come.

“I do not like Golovkin as a person, not at all. As a fighter I respect him, because he is great and has many, many qualities.

“He is one of the very best in boxing and will always be one of the best in boxing, but as a person, I don’t like him and I will beat him.”

Canelo returns to Vegas this weekend with a real point to prove on the back of his crushing defeat at the hands of Dmitry Bivol back in May.

The Mexican had hoped to stamp his authority at light heavyweight level, but fell short against the Russian, who executed his game-plan to perfection to retain his WBA gold.

“It was a very difficult night and I am never prepared for defeat, so it was tough,” he said of his first defeat since 2013.

“At the end of the day you have to move on though and we have done that by taking another very, very important challenge in my career.

“You have to move on in boxing, and that is exactly what I have done.”

Canelo also has added motivation this weekend with the hotly-anticipated fight set to take place on Mexican Independence Day.

“The truth is that it is a source of pride for me to be able to represent Mexicans, especially on this important date, I feel very proud.

“I want to thank my fellow Mexicans for the support that they have always given me and I hope that wherever they are, they will be supporting me, as always.”

If you fancy Canelo to fulfil his promise of becoming the first fighter to stop Golovkin inside the distance, then you can back him to do so at 8/5.

The 32-year-old is the well-backed favourite to retain his super-middleweight titles this weekend, priced at 1/6 to win the fight, with Golovkin out at 7/2.
