Our resident boxing insider Rob Tebbutt dissects Saturday night's intriguing domestic affair between Cameron Vuong and Gavin Gwynne and explains where he feels the betting value in the fight can be found.
Cameron Vuong faces Gavin Gwynne on the Edwards-Yafai undercard in a classic clash of youth vs experience.
Many eyebrows were raised when this fight was announced for 22-year-old Vuong, who enters the bout with Gwynne on the back of just six professional contests.
While Gwynne was stopped in one-sided fashion by Mark Chamberlain last time out, he is one of the most experienced campaigners on the British circuit and will be confident of making that experience tell against his fledgling opponent.
A former British and European champion at lightweight, at 34-years-old, Gwynne looks like he will carry the additional 5lbs well and if he does, young Vuong could be in for a hard night’s work.
Many in the trade have questioned the wisdom in taking this fight for the former Birtley amateur star and I have to share that scepticism.
In his only ten rounder to date, Vuong looked uncomfortable and was hurt late-on against the workmanlike Jeff Ofori - and that bout, for me, represents a sizeable red flag when looking at the attritional style of Gwynne and his effectiveness late in fights.
All of the value is on Gwynne here - particularly at the extremely generous odds on offer - and I have a feeling this may turn into a bout that has people scratching their heads afterwards and wondering why it was made in the first place.
