Esports: Call of Duty League Stage 2 Major Qualifier Friday Match Preview

The standings heading into Major 2 are becoming clear and Friday sees three matches on the slate, with plenty of intriguing duels between the best teams in the CDL.

Let's take a look at what's on the schedule for Friday.

Mutineers look to get back on track

OddsFlorida Mutineers 1/1, London Royal Ravens 8/11

The Florida Mutineers will aim to get back on track as they try to avoid falling to the bottom four seeds heading into Major 2. They currently sit at 1-2 and in a tie with the Las Vegas Legion and Los Angeles Thieves. They will need to be ready for anything as they face a London Royal Ravens team in desperate need for a win themselves at 1-3.

Florida's victory came against the Los Angeles Guerrillas during the week one match of this qualifier in a tough five-map contest. As for London they lost two-straight matches against the Ultra and Minnesota Rokkr. Those losses were during week one. They came into week two with hope but were also shutout by the LA Thieves before they were able to scrape out a nice 3-1 victory against the Las Vegas Legion last Sunday.

These teams haven't met since last July during the Stage 4 Major qualifiers. The Royal Ravens were able to easily take care of business that day with a 3-1 win over the Mutineers.

Florida had plenty of confidence coming into the new season after a couple of top-six finishes in the final three Majors. They also had a very strong showing at the first Major this season, as they were able to finish in the top eight. Their run at that event ended with a 3-0 loss against the Thieves. Still, they were able to get a good start to the new campaign.

London might have won the most recent meeting, but the Mutineers look to be in a better situation in this match-up and could provide the value at 1/1.

Subliners have edge to cover

OddsLas Vegas Legion 3/1, New York Subliners 2/9

The New York Subliners have had a solid start to the Major 2 qualifiers as they currently sit in a multi-team tie with 20 points for third. Luckily for them they are currently 2-1 heading into a clash with the Las Vegas Legion. The Legion are a little further down the standings at 1-2.

New York's two wins have come against the Los Angeles Thieves and the Florida Mutineers. They came up just short in a very tough 3-2 loss against the Atlanta FaZe last Sunday.

The Subliners have had an outstanding start to the 2023 season as they were able to win Major 1. They did so by beating the Atlanta FaZe and Seattle Surge in the semi-finals and Grand Final. This is the second meeting of the season for Las Vegas and New York. The Legion only managed to win one map in that match as the Subliners triumphed 3-1.

The Legion have had a far better start to 2023 then they did in 2022 and that comes as a big surprise since the organization made the move from Paris to Las Vegas. The team was able to secure a 5th-6th place finish at Major 1. With an all-American player line-up, the Legion means business this season. They might not have enough firepower to outlast the Subliners. New York has the edge at 2/9.

Atlanta FaZe look to dominate

OddsAtlanta FaZe 2/5, Los Angeles Guerrillas 7/4

The Guerrillas and FaZe will want to win this head-to-head meeting, with both teams looking to climb up the final standings during this Major 2 qualifying period. Both teams sit at 2-1. LA was able to rebound from a 3-2 loss against Florida, with a 3-1 win against their rivals the LA Thieves. They then took care of business against the Minnesota Rokkr.

Atlanta holds wins against the Surge and Subliners, who were both the Grand Finalists at Major 1. Their loss was a big surprise as the FaZe were shutout by the Minnesota Rokkr. Los Angeles will try to use their recent win against that same team as motivation to knock off the FaZe.

With a line-up of aBeZy, Cellium, Simp, and SlasheR, the Faze are going to be a hard team to beat every time they play and, at 2/5 in the Match Lines market, they will expect to get the better of the Guerrillas.
