Burnley v Bournemouth: Tips, Predictions and Odds

There are two Premier League games on Sunday and the early kick-off sees struggling Burnley host Bournemouth at Turf Moor.

The Clarets sit second from bottom in the table and they are 11 points adrift of safety going into this round of fixtures.

Bournemouth looked to be heading towards a comfortable mid-table finish not too long ago but a seven-game winless run in the Premier League means they are not safe just yet, although they are eight points clear of the drop zone.

The Cherries go into the game following a disappointing FA Cup exit at the hands of Championship outfit Leicester, while Burnley are winless in nine across all competitions.

Burnley v Bournemouth Predictions

Bournemouth to win and both teams to score no - 11/4

Bournemouth are winless in six but they have drawn three of those and have been competitive in all of them, including a 3-1 defeat at Fulham, where they were perhaps unlucky not to get something, and a 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester City in the last round of fixtures.

In contrast, Burnley appear to have completely downed tools and an immediate return to the Championship looks almost guaranteed based on recent displays.

The Clarets were downed 3-0 at Crystal Palace in their last game and they failed to register a single attempt on target, with just two shots in total, and prior to that they were hammered 5-0 at this venue by Arsenal, again without managing to test their opponents’ keeper.

If you’re putting together a multiple bet or accumulator for Sunday the straightforward price of 19/20 on a Bournemouth win offers enough value, but for anyone after a bigger-price single option there could be some mileage in a win for the Cherries combined with a clean sheet.

Burnley have gone two games without recording a shot on target and they have failed to score in three of their last five games at Turf Moor.

Bournemouth aren’t exactly clean-sheet specialists but recently their wins have largely been accompanied by shutouts. The south-coast club have avoided conceding in five of their last eight victories, and they may be able to win to nil when they make the trip to east Lancashire on Sunday.

Justin Kluivert to score - 9/4

Bournemouth have concerns over leading marksman Dominic Solanke going into Sunday’s fixture and they will make a late call on their top scorer, who didn’t train during the week after a clear MRI scan on a knee injury on Tuesday.

If Solanke does play he will of course appeal as a potential anytime scorer at 11/8 but another option is Justin Kluivert at 9/4.

The 24-year-old Dutchman has a modest three goals in 20 Premier League games this season but one of those strikes came in a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest last month.

Kluivert is averaging a solid 1.3 shots-per-game in the Premier League and the Cherries will need their other attacking players to step up and fill the void if Solanke is absent, so the former Ajax man may have a bit more attacking responsibility at Burnley.

Lorenz Assignon to be booked - 21/10

Burnley new boy Lorenz Assignon impressed on his debut after joining from Rennes in the January transfer window on a loan deal in the 2-2 draw with Fulham but his performances have tailed off since.

The 24-year-old has committed eight fouls across his four games for the Clarets and has one booking so far, which came in the 5-0 defeat to the Gunners in his last game at Turf Moor. Assignon has committed at least one foul in all four of his appearances and has also weighed in with a respectable 12 tackles.

The Frenchman could well be tasked with keeping tabs on Bournemouth’s tricky winger Luis Sinisterra on Sunday so he could be in for a difficult afternoon, and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him pick up a booking either.
