Burnley defender Maxime Esteve is reportedly in talks with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig regarding a potential transfer this summer.
The 24-year-old centre-back has been a popular figure since his arrival at Turf Moor in February 2024.
After spending the remainder of the 2023/24 season on loan at Burnley, Esteve signed a permanent contract with the club in the following summer.
He then played in every Championship match as Burnley secured promotion to the Premier League in the 2024/25 season.
The Clarets set a new EFL record of conceding just 16 goals as they amassed a total of 100 points, with Esteve very much at the heart of their defensive efforts.
Last season was a disappointing one for Burnley as a feeble Premier League survival bid ended in relegation, but Esteve was once again one of the standout players as he featured 34 times.
With Burnley once again facing the prospect of Championship football, French news outlet Onze Mondial have reported that RB Leipzig are looking to complete a deal to sign the French defender.
It is said that Esteve is already in talks to move to a team that finished third in the Bundesliga table last season and qualified for the UEFA Champions League.
Esteve is keen to further his career and move on from Burnley this summer and he is still at an age where he could force his way into international contention in the coming years.
Whilst a number of clubs throughout Europe have been linked with a move, it is RB Leipzig that have shown the most willingness to pursue a deal.
A deal to sign Esteve is likely to cost upwards of £20 million and it is a fee that could provide Burnley with the chance to add plenty of quality to their ranks ahead of a promotion push.
