Horse Racing - Racing: Burke believes in El Caballo

El Caballo has been deemed a "Group horse in the making" by his trainer Karl Burke as he looks to bring up a five-timer on All-Weather finals day at Newcastle.

The upwardly mobile three-year-old made it four wins in a row last time out, taking the step up to Listed level in his stride to run out a comfortable one-length winner and he is 7/4 to win again in the 15:10 at Newcastle on Friday.

Burke drops charge back in trip

Burke now drops his performer back in trip and brings him back to the scene of a previous victory over Canonized, who is a Listed scorer and has also placed at Group level, prompting the reaction that he has a special horse.

He faces some very unexposed rivals, mainly in the form of the William Haggas-trained Tiber Flow, who has an unbeaten record and whose trainer won this race back in 2017 with a similarly progressive horse.

The Middleham trainer is expecting a bold show nonetheless, in the hope that this will propel his runner to greater heights and fulfil the high regard that he is held in.

"El Caballo is in great order," Burke said. "He's been working really well and I'm absolutely delighted with him. I think he's a Group horse in the making and I'm hoping he can show that."

There are no doubts that a trip to Royal Ascot would be on the cards for this progressive runner if he runs out a dominant victor in this field full of winners, but as yet we don’t know just how far El Caballo will progress.
