Bryson DeChambeau is 6/1 to win the US Masters after shooting an impressive 65 to lead the tournament at the end of day one.
The 2020 U.S. Open champion delivered a timely reminder of his talent with eight birdies to finish seven under par, one ahead of Scottie Scheffler on the leaderboard.
Priced at 35/1 before the tournament commenced, DeChambeau had missed the cut on his last two appearances at Augusta and his best result at the US Masters is a T-21 finish in 2016.
DeChambeau, who controversially suggested Augusta National was "par 67" for him in 2020, made a quick start with birdies on the first three holes and the American maintained that momentum with a composed putt to save par on the fourth.
The LIV golfer continued to tackle Augusta with flying colours and though he dropped a shot on the ninth, DeChambeau responded emphatically by posting five birdies on the back nine to deliver his greatest round at the venue.
While DeChambeau holds the clubhouse lead, Scheffler remains the outright favourite to claim a second US Masters title at 8/5.
Winner of the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship, Scheffler looked in imperious form. The world number one holed out from a bunker on the 12th before a brave two-putt from 80ft on the 18th ensured his round remained bogey-free.
With the weather disrupting Thursday's schedule at Augusta, several players are still yet to complete their first round, including Nicolai Højgaard and Max Homa.
Højgaard is two shots adrift of DeChambeau and is currently priced at 35/1 to win the US Masters, while Homa is four under par and is third favourite at 16/1.
Rory McIlroy, who is aiming to get his hands on the one major that eludes him, endured a shaky start with two bogeys in his first four holes, but battled his way back into contention to finish the day one under par.
