Manchester United have submitted a £55m bid for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo.
Mbeumo is one of the Premier League's hottest properties following yet another impressive individual campaign in which he contributed 20 goals and eight assists.
The Cameroon international was linked with a departure from the Gtech Community Stadium last summer but no move came to fruition. However, with only one year left on his current deal - which includes an option to extend by 12 months - Brentford are prepared to cash in on their prized asset.
Newcastle were initially frontrunners to add Mbeumo to their ranks but it's come to light that Mbeumo has his heart set on a move to Manchester United.
Posting on X, The Athletic journalist David Ornstein said: "Bryan Mbeumo decides he wants to join Manchester United and the club are now expected to open talks with Brentford in a bid to sign 25-year-old forward this summer.
The likes of Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham are all interested but the Cameroon international favours Old Trafford deal if agreed.
Mbeumo was signed by Brentford when the club were in the Championship in 2019 for a then club-record fee of £5.8m from Troyes.
Able to play across a number of roles in the forward line, Mbeumo was often an underrated figure in Brentford's ascent but the 25-year-old has emerged as the Bees' star man in the wake of Ivan Toney's departure last summer.
The versatile forward would mark United's second purchase of the summer transfer window after the club sealed a £62.5m deal for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.
Cunha, 26, provided 21 goal contributions for Wolves last term and has won 13 senior caps for Brazil.
Ruben Amorim is eager to have his attacking options replenished following a dismal campaign which saw the 13-time Premier League champions finish 15th and fail to secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League after losing the Europa League final.
Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are all expected to depart the club on a permanent basis in the summer, while United are reportedly willing to listen to offers for goalkeeper Andre Onana.
