The Champions Fillies' and Mares' Stakes is a wide open affair on British Champions Day at Ascot and may offer Frankie Dettori one of his best chances to get on the scoresheet.
Dettori partners Free Wind for John & Thady Gosden in the mile-and-a-half Group 1 contest and will be desperate to mark what is billed as his final appearance at this meeting with a winner.
The Fillies' and Mares' Stakes is race three on the Ascot card and the Group 1 contest carries a top prize in excess of £301k.

The daughter of American Pharoah was a Group 2 winner in France in May and has run with great credit in four Group 1s since that. She handles difficult ground no problem and if first-time cheekpieces prove to be a positive, she should be in the mix.
Current Odds – 3/1
Jockey – Frankie Dettori
Trainer – John & Thady Gosden
She's now a five-year-old but is still only a veteran of a dozen races. She won the bet365 Lancashire Oaks on soft ground last season and started this term with success in York's Group 2 Middleton in May.
However, a mixed bag since then has included an underwhelming showing in the Lillie Langtry at Goodwood, a near miss in Yorkshire Oaks and getting outclassed in the Arc.
Current Odds – 25/1
Jockey – Rob Hornby
Trainer – Hughie Morrison
This progressive filly is 2-3 on turf since leaving Johnny Murtagh to join this yard. The Nottingham Listed win in May and French Group 3 triumph in July were both over 1m2f on soft ground but she was well held in a Deauville Group 1 recently.
Current Odds – 33/1
Jockey – Sam James
Trainer – Karl Burke
The likeable Nathaniel filly was a gutsy winner of the bet365 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock in July but has twice come up well short since in Group 1 races and has a clear personal best to find in this company.
Current Odds – 25/1
Jockey – David Egan
Trainer – Hughie Morrison
She has come off worst in previous jousts with Free Wind and while running solid races in defeat in the Yorkshire Oaks and the Prix de l'Opera in her last two starts, this four-year-old filly is going to have to find plenty more to get the job done.
Current Odds – 14/1
Jockey – Tom Marquand
Trainer – Henry de Bromhead
She has been consistent so far in her career, albeit at lower level than this. She put away some good fillies in fine style at Cork in August over this trip on testing ground in a Group 3 event and she is an interesting raider from Ireland.
Current Odds – 5/1
Jockey – William Buick
Trainer – Roger Charlton
The Frankel filly was running well without necessarily progressing in the early part of the season but arrives here after backing up a French Listed win early last month with an authoritative Newmarket Group 3 score (1m4f, good to firm), in which Running Lion was third.
Current Odds – 9/1
Jockey – Rossa Ryan
Trainer – Ralph Beckett
She was unfortunate when second in the Irish Oaks at the Curragh over this trip on soft ground in July and ran well when fourth in Yorkshire version the following month.
Bluestocking was second in a Listed Chester race last month but it remains possible she has more to offer.
Current Odds – 10/3
Jockey – Ryan Moore
Trainer – Aidan O'Brien
The Galileo filly won a Gowran Park Group 3 on soft ground over nine furlongs in July and has been second in Group 1s at the Curragh and Longchamp in recent months.
She produced an excellent effort behind Blue Rose Cen in France last time and the longer trip could unlock more improvement.
Current Odds – 66/1
Trainer – James Doyle
Trainer- Aidan O'Brien
She landed a Group 3 over nine furlongs at the Curragh in August when ridden more aggressively but she couldn't repeat the feat back there on Irish Champions Weekend last month.
Current Odds – 12/1
Jockey – Gerald Mosse
Trainer – Mikel Delzangles
The lightly-raced French filly won a Group 2 over this trip on soft ground at Longchamp in July. She has finished fourth twice since in Group 1s at the Parisian venue but she has room for improvement still and this track might suit at this distance.
Current Odds – 20/1
Jockey – Oisin Murphy
Trainer – John & Thady Gosden
Running Lion completed a four-timer when easily winning a Newmarket Listed race over 1m2f (soft) in May. However, the French Oaks was a step too far after that, before placing at Salisbury and Newmarket most recently. She will have to improve to turn things around at Ascot.
Current Odds – 100/1
Jockey – PJ McDonald
Trainer – Andrew Balding
Sea Of Roses won a Doncaster maiden over a mile on her final start as a two-year-old and she looked promising when second in a Group 3 at Salisbury in April over a mile-and-a-quarter. Her progress has stalled since and she folded tamely last time out at Chester.
Current Odds – 12/1
Jockey – Hollie Doyle
Trainer – John & Thady Gosden
The daughter of Sea The Stars had just one start last year and won a Newbury novice and a Newmarket Listed race on her return in July and August this year. She has the capability to progress further on her fifth start.
