Where are the British Basketball Cup Finals?

The Utilita Arena in Birmingham will host the British Basketball Cup Finals this year, as it has done for all bar one of the previous 19 finals.

The Arena was opened in 1991 and was the largest indoor arena in the United Kingdom when it was completed.

The venue has hosted a variety of sports and entertainment events since opening, including the Eurovision Song Contest, the European Athletics Indoor Championships and the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The main arena has a capacity of 15,800 while the smaller B1 venue holds 6,825 spectators.

While Birmingham has no current team in the British Basketball League, the city has declared its intention to apply for a team for the beginning of the 2023-24 season.

Who has won the British Basketball Cup Finals on the most occasions?

The Newcastle Eagles are the most successful team in British Basketball Cup history, winning the title six times, thanks largely to their period of dominance from 2011-12 until 2016-17 where they won four of the six tournaments and were runner up in the other two.

The Eagles have reached nine of the 19 ever finals but have struggled this season and were beaten by the Leicester Riders in the quarter-finals, who have gone on to reach the final.

The Riders are the second-most successful team in BBL Cup history, winning the title three times including their 83-69 win over the Manchester Giants last season.

Leicester have won all but one of their appearances in the BBL Cup final and face the London Lions, who have won the title twice.

The Lions took the crown in 2008 and 2019 and currently sit top of the BBL Championship after winning 15 of their opening 17 games of the season.

Who are the favourites for the British Basketball Cup Finals?

These two sides have met twice before this season, with the London Lions coming out on top 89-78 on home soil in September before doing the double with an 81-75 away win in December over the Leicester Riders.

Both teams were comfortable winners throughout this cup run, with the London Lions beating the Cheshire Phoenix 74-65 in the quarter-final stage before recording a 97-79 win over the Bristol Flyers in the final four.

The Leicester Riders beat the Newcastle Eagles 94-73 in the last eight of the competition before recording an 89-68 win over the Caledonia Gladiators in the semi-finals.
