Georginio Rutter 5/1 to be Brighton's top goalscorer after Leeds switch

Brighton have continued their summer splurge with the confirmation of Georginio Rutter's £40m move from Leeds United.

bet365’s Steve Freeth said: “Some managers will be giving Fabian Hurzeler an enviable glance with the forward players he has at his disposal and it must be a nice headache to have for the 31-year-old as the Seagulls look to build on the three goals they scored at Everton.”

Rutter was sensational for the Whites last season, making 44 Championship starts and chipping in with a total of 22 goal contributions and Seagulls fans will be hoping he can bring that form in the Premier League.

Brighton were hampered by injuries combined with European involvement last season, and the club will hope that with the latter no longer an issue, it’ll help fix the former.

But even if another injury crisis strikes the south coast side, they can rest safe in the knowledge they have a squad more capable of dealing with it.

Although we only have one competitive game to go off, Brighton were superb against Everton, and it’s clear to see Hurzeler plans to lean on his wide men to punish sides this season.

Yankuba Minteh was dangerous before his removal just before half-time with replacement Simon Adingra finding the net, while Kaoru Mitoma was his usual lively self, opening the scoring.

It’s hard to know exactly where Rutter will fit in for Brighton; capable of playing off the right and cutting onto his favoured left, the Frenchman is also able to play up top or behind a striker.

On Saturday we saw Danny Welbeck and Joao Pedro start together, while Julio Enciso, Solly March and Evan Ferguson are still out injured, so Hurzeler isn't short of options.

After an electrifying start to last season where Brighton scored 18 goals in their first six games, things dried up from there.

Brighton failed to score in 10 Premier League games, six of which came from March onwards. Indeed; the Seagulls scored more than one goal in just two of their final 19 games of the season, but their lack of firepower looks to have been addressed in the summer.

Pedro is favourite to be top scorer for the club this term as he was last season with nine, but four of those came from the penalty spot. The Brazilian’s non-penalty xG last season was a fairly modest 7.9 (albeit from 31 games and 19 starts).

Ferguson and Adingra were top scorers excluding penalties and are 9/2 and 8/1 respectively to top the Seagulls’ scoring charts with Welbeck 9/2 after opening his account at Goodison Park.

New man Rutter is fourth favourite at 5/1, with Mitoma 6/1 and Minteh 10/1.
