Tommy Fury to make comeback against Kenan Hanjalic on 9th May

Tommy Fury will make his return to the boxing ring against Bosnian fighter Kenan Hanjalic in Budapest on 9th May.

The 25-year-old Mancunian has not fought since beating KSI on a Misfits card at the Manchester Arena 18 months ago having been hampered by a hand injury.

Fury's upcoming opponent Hanjalic has fought five times since turning professional in 2019, recording four victories and one defeat.

Former Love Island star Fury took to Instagram to reflect on the mental struggles he has faced during his 18-month lay-off from boxing:

The hardest battle I've faced has been the mental battle away from boxing, but I'm back stronger, sharper and more HUNGARY than ever.

Fury was originally supposed to make his boxing comeback against ex-UFC fighter Darren Till as a headline Misfits bout in January, but pulled out after the Liverpudlian threatened to employ illegal MMA tactics in the build-up.

Englishman Fury is currently based in Budapest ahead of his comeback fight against a largely unknown quantity in Hanjalic.

The brother of former heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury, Tommy's other brother Roman will also appear on the upcoming Budapest card against Croatian Josip Pehar.

The current direction of Fury’s boxing career appears unclear, with the cruiserweight continuing to be linked with a rematch against social media mega star Jake Paul after inflicting the American’s first defeat in the ring in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia in February 2023.

Paul’s promotional partner Nakisa Bidarian claims Fury has turned down a substantial offer to rematch his American rival this year, telling SunSport: “Tommy was offered an unbelievable deal to headline versus Jake on Netflix and they had a false sense of expectations.”

A potential rematch between Fury and KSI on Misfits has also been mooted.
