Almost two years on from Liam Smith’s loss to Chris Eubank Jr, he returns to the ring with a lot to prove.

Smith came out on top in the first clash with Eubank Jr, defeating him via TKO. He came up short the second time round, on the wrong side of a TKO which saw the fight brought to a halt in the 10th round.

The Liverpudlian has no option but to win on Saturday night, labelling it as “the most important fight” of his career when speaking to The Stomping Ground. “If I lose, where do I go,” Smith added.

I had my reasons for losing last time. I’ve got no reasons I should be losing to Aaron McKenna. If I can’t beat Aaron McKenna what more can I do?

The Liverpool born fighter clearly knows the importance of this fight, but when speaking to Sky Sports he appeared to have one eye on what the future could bring, with a potential trilogy with Chris Eubank Jr mooted.

"Going back to the loss to Chris is all the motivation I need really. Last time I was in a ring in a competitive fight I was horrendous.

"That loss eats away at me every night because I didn't get the chance to do it again.

For some reason it got stopped at 1-1, Lyndon Arthur and Anthony Yarde get their trilogy, I don't get why I didn't.

"It's down to me prove that I'm back, there were reasons behind that performance."
