Liam Davies, 28, comes into his showdown with Shabaz Masoud following the biggest win of his career to date, and perhaps his best performance. Davies stopped Erik Robles in the second round to claim the vacant IBO world title and will make his first defence against Masoud, who also boasts an unbeaten record.
Davies made his debut in 2018 against veteran Georgian Khvicha Gigolashvili, claiming a win on points in a four-round contest at the Holiday Inn in Birmingham.
After compiling a 7-0 record, Davies secured his first title shot in 2020 as he became the British bantamweight champion by stopping Sean Cairns in the sixth round.
Davies made the move up to super bantamweight and claimed the WBC international silver title by beating Dixon Flores on points in 2021. The following year he took the British title in that division with a unanimous decision win over Marc Leach and then added the European crown to his CV with a points win over Ionut Baluta.
In July of 2023, Davies defended his three titles against Jason Cunningham, who was defending his own WBO international belt, and claimed a stunning first round win over the southpaw.
Davies followed that up with a fifth round victory against Vincenzo La Femina before taking on Robles, meaning his last three wins have all come via stoppages.
12-0 (4 KOs)
Like Davies, Shabaz Masoud brings an unbeaten record to the table but this bout represents a step up in clash for the Rochdale native.
The 28-year-old made his debut in 2018 against journeyman Stefan Sashev as he claimed a third round TKO win. Masoud’s first four outings were against opponents with losing records, before he picked up a points win over the 13-9-1 Brayan Mairena in 2019.
A pair of wins over Diego Alberto Ruiz and Yoan Boyeaux raised Masoud’s profile and in November 2022 he overcame the previously unbeaten Jack Bateson to land the WBA intercontinental super bantamweight strap.
Masoud was last in action in November of 2023 as he secured a points win over Jose Sanmartin.
Liam Davies is the clear favourite at 2/5 in the bout betting, while Shabaz Masoud is the 2/1 underdog.
