Lewis Edmondson mooted as ideal next opponent for Ben Whittaker

Ben Whittaker has had a tough time of late, coming under scrutiny following a controversial technical draw against Liam Cameron in October 2024.

He bounced back in fashion however, stopping Cameron inside two rounds in their rematch on Sunday 20th April 2025.

With insight from boxing expert Rob Tebbutt, we take a look at who Ben Whittaker could fight next.

Lewis Edmondson a 'good option' for Ben Whittaker

Breaking into the professional boxing scene in September 2019 with a points victory against Gianni Antoh, Lewis Edmondson has made quick work of becoming one of the standout boxers in the light-heavyweight division.

Boasting an 11-0 record, it's been hard to pick many faults in his game up to now, arguably recording his most impressive win over the highly rated Dan Azeez back in October 2024.

Our resident boxing expert Rob Tebbutt believes a fight between Whittaker and Edmondson is well within the realms of possibility, suggesting it could be the contest we see next.

Tebbutt said:

Lewis Edmondson would be a good option for Ben Whittaker to fight next.

"When they were both signed to BOXXER, it was a fight that Ben Shalom tried to make, but unfortunately they weren't able to be put it together.

"Now Whittaker has had the poor showing against Cameron in the first fight, subsequently looking great in the rematch, maybe it's a fight that he would look to take.

"Lewis Edmondson does have a mandatory due and the board could order that fight. It's important to note that Lewis Edmondson is now signed with Queensbury Promotions and Frank Warren, not BOXXER, which could be a stumbling block in making that fight.

"Although, we have seen promoters work together more often recently."

Dan Azeez emerges as a potential candidate

Despite having failed to win in all of his last three fights, losing to Lewis Edmondson and Joshua Buatsi and drawing against Hrvoje Sep, Dan Azeez can't be ruled out as a potential candidate to fight Ben Whittaker next.

Azeez should take little to no shame in losing to fellow light-heavyweight fighters Buatsi and Edmondson, but he will want to make sure is that he can bounce back in style and ensure his name stays amongst the best in the division.

Rob Tebbutt added: "Another option I think is Dan Azeez, former British and European light-heavyweight champion.

"He of course came up short against Joshua Buatsi and lost a very close decision against Edmondson, a fight which I felt he won.

He's a recognisable name. He's tough, he's durable and I think he could be a potential opponent for Ben Whittaker.
