We assess the attributes and credentials of Lauren Price and Bexcy Mateus as the pair prepare to go to battle for the WBA and IBO welterweight titles in Liverpool.
In boxing, big fights often receive the protracted will-they-won’t-they build-up usually reserved for rom-coms.
A welterweight unification bout between Natasha Jonas and Lauren Price is the latest to receive this treatment.
On 14th December, both women will defend their respective 147lbs titles on the same card, but against different opposition.
The Welshwoman faces off against the untested Bexcy Mateus in the first defence of her WBA and IBO belts.
Price will be acutely aware that many super-fights have fallen at the final hurdle and will be determined to ensure there are no slip ups against the dangerous Colombian.
This is an opportunity for Mateus to defy the odds and establish herself as a major force on the world scene.
Who will prevail?
Let’s have a look at the tale of the tape…

Lauren Price proved, without doubt, that she was the best middleweight in amateur boxing, having won gold at the Commonwealth Games, World Championships and Olympic Games.
Now, she is out to prove she is the best welterweight in the paid ranks.
In May, she staked her claim by defeating former undisputed champion Jessica McCaskill with greater ease than anyone had done before, including Katie Taylor.
It was a masterful performance from the southpaw who dominated from the opening bell right until the fight was stopped in the ninth round due to an injury sustained by the American due to a clash of heads.
Victory over Natasha Jonas would further cement her status as the queen of the 147lbs division, but for that bout to happen, the Welshwoman must first overcome the unknown Bexcy Mateus.
There is little footage of the Colombian, however her record indicates she can punch, albeit against lesser opponents.
To ensure a career-defining clash happens next, Price must avoid disaster against the South American.

In an age where you can watch countless hours of training videos, sparring and fight footage, unknown quantities are a rarity, but they still exist.
Bexcy Mateus is proof of this.
Basic information, such as height and reach are not listed for her online.
The one thing we know for certain is she can punch, at least against low-level opposition.
In the limited video footage available online, it shows the Colombian possesses an aggressive style and targets the body.
If she is to be victorious, it would likely be the upset of the year, but if she hits as hard as her record implies, she has a puncher’s chance if nothing else.
