In one of the most controversial yet highly anticipated fights in recent times, YouTuber-turned-professional boxer Jake Paul will be taking on former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson later this year.
Originally planned to be an exhibition bout, the fight was rebranded as a professional match in April, with the pair set to contest a maximum of eight two-minute rounds.
Despite 14-ounce gloves being used, no headgear will be required, knockouts are prohibited and professional records will be affected by the result.
Paul, nicknamed The Problem Child, is 31 years younger than his rival and lives for the pre-match trash-talking, however, a 58-year-old Iron Mike is still likely to pack a significant punch and the bout promises to be an intriguing one.
Here's everything you need to know ahead of what should be an exciting fight.
The original date for the clash was July 20th, but an ulcer flare-up for Tyson saw the fight postponed.
The new date means the pair will face off on November 15th, assuming no other hiccups occur prior to then, with rumours of Tyson’s poor health still circulating and may continue up until the night of the fight.
Any issues could result in in the bout being downgraded to an exhibition.
No information on a ring walk time has been announced yet. Fights of this magnitude normally aim for a 10pm local time ring-walk in the hope of a 10:30pm start.
The bout will be taking place in the USA, at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The stadium is the home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, but has been used regularly for boxing over the years, with Canelo Alvarez and Manny Pacquiao just two of the big names to take to the AT&T ring since 2010.
In a first for both boxing and the streaming service, Netflix will be showing the bout live.
That is good news for subscribers to Netflix, as they will be showing the fight at no extra cost to existing customers.
There are no belts on the line, with this being Paul’s maiden foray into the heavyweight division and Tyson’s first professional fight since 2005.
10-1 (7 KOs)
Paul began his career with a white-collar match against Deji Olatunji - brother of YouTuber and musician KSI - and gained notoriety for his trash-talking and subsequent knockout of former NBA star Nate Robinson in his second professional bout.
Wins over MMA pros Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley (twice) and Anderson Silva followed before his solitary career loss against Tommy Fury - brother of Tyson Fury - via split decision.
The Problem Child bounced back with a win over former UFC fighter Nate Diaz, before finally deciding to face some professional boxers rather than MMA stars. He took on Andre August and Ryan Bourland in 2023 and won both fights.
His last fight came against former UFC star Mike Perry, a bout Paul won, and he has shown his confidence ahead of his clash with Tyson by offering to increase the time of each round to three minutes.
50-6 (44 KOs)
Tyson is a legend of the sport, with his first professional bout coming way back in 1985 against Hector Mercedes. Iron Mike won by TKO on that occasion, a sign of things to come as he went on to win by knockout in 44 of his 50 successes.
He rose the ranks swiftly after that debut victory, winning another 26 fights - 24 by KO - in 18 months before finally being given a crack at a belt, the WBC heavyweight title.
It took Tyson less than six minutes to knock Trevor Berbick out and claim the title, swiftly becoming a household name in the sport at just 20 years of age. His punching power was feared in his class and that success was only the beginning.
He beat Tony Tucker soon after to become the first boxer to hold all three - WBC, IBF, WBA - heavyweight titles and become the unified champion. A 91-second victory over Michael Spinks in 1988 saw him land The Ring heavyweight title too and his fame had never been higher.
However, after beating Frank Bruno and Carl Williams, Tyson’s 37-fight unbeaten streak was snapped by Buster Douglas, whose 12-inch reach advantage proved too much for his fellow American.
Tyson’s second loss came against Evander Holyfield, with the rematch of that defeat resulting in one of the most infamous moments in the sport’s history as Iron bit off part of his opponent’s ear.
The once undisputed heavyweight champ’s career fizzled out somewhat after that controversy and he eventually retired from professional boxing after a defeat to Kevin McBride in 2005, meaning this clash with Paul will be his first pro contest in over 19 years.
As of now, Paul is the 10/33 favourite to win this bout, with Tyson the 12/5 outsider.
The Problem Child’s age and fitness is the main reason for the disparity in price, but he has never faced a hitter as strong as Iron Mike - named so for a reason - so the result is far from a foregone conclusion if Tyson can use his experience to his advantage and overcome his age.
