British heavyweight prospect Leo Atang has signed a long-term professional contract with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom.
18-year-old Atang has been a standout member of the Team GB boxing squad, with his performances in the amateur ranks enough to convince the Matchroom brass to fast-track the heavyweight onto the professional scene.
Hailing from York, Atang has an amateur record of 16-1, with eight of his wins coming by way of knockout.
A five-time national champion as an amateur and winner of the World Boxing Under-19 world champions in the United States last year, Atang is excited to join Matchroom's stable.
Atang said in a press release following the announcement of his deal with Matchroom:
It's a dream come true to sign with Matchroom. My team and I have had many good conversations leading to me turning pro, but I knew this one just felt right from the start, it's what I always hoped for.
A former flying rugby league winger, Atang is currently being managed by former IBF Flyweight world champion Sunny Edwards.
Matchroom CEO Eddie Hearn has voiced his delight at being able to capture one of the top prospects in British boxing.
Hearn said: "We're incredibly excited to secure the signing of highly-rated heavyweight talent Leo Atang.
"We've been following Leo's rapid rise in the amateur ranks and we feel he will be perfectly suited to the professional game."
Atang is expected to make his professional debut in the boxing ring later in 2025.
