Chris Eubank Jr has followed through on his promise to pay the undercard boxers from his cancelled original bout against Conor Benn back in 2022.
In a press conference promoting the pair's rescheduled meeting on 26th April 2025, Eubank Jr outlined his intention to help reimburse the fighters on the undercard of the first planned fight.
"From my purse for this fight I will be giving £50,000 to the fighters on that undercard [for the cancelled 2022 fight] to split between them to cover their losses."
The son of British boxing legend Chris Eubank Sr has stayed true to his word, posting on his X account on 17th April:
After my first scheduled bout with Conor Benn got cancelled, Eddie Hearn and Matchroom never compensated anyone for their training camps, which never sat well with me. So here's a little something to help out the undercard fighters that were left out of pocket.
Eubank Jr accompanied this statement with a screenshot showing payments to the following 10 fighters - Felix Cash, Harlem Eubank, Connor Coyle, Matty Harris, Mary Romero, Chloe Watson, Shannon Courtenay, Galai Yafai, Ellie Scotney and Lyndon Arthur.
The imminent fight between Eubank Jr and Benn at a sold-out Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 26th April has developed into one of the most hotly-anticipated British boxing events in recent history.
Already capturing widespread attention given the historic rivalry between Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn in the early 1990s, the fight between their sons has now grown a narrative of its own following the cancellation of the original scheduled meeting in 2022.
The first contest was cancelled on the week of the fight in October 2022 after Benn was found to have tested positive for a banned substance.
'The Destroyer' has claimed his innocence ever since, with Eubank Jr infamously crashing an egg against Benn's face at a press conference in February 2025 after the WBC declared the fighter's positive test was a result of a 'highly-elevated consumption of eggs'.
Eubank Jr and Benn will now have the opportunity to settle their differences in the ring, just as their fathers did in epic fashion over three decades ago.
