Chantelle Cameron claimed the biggest win of her career in 2023 when she became the first, and so far only, woman to beat Irish superstar Katie Taylor.
Cameron lost an immediate rematch later that year and was unable to secure a trilogy fight as her career stalled slightly, although she has won all five of her fights since defeat to Taylor.
A showdown with Mikaela Mayer represents a return to the big time for Il Capo but she is rated as the 7/4 underdog for this contest.
Cameron has been an undisputed champion at super lightweight and became a two-weight world champion by outpointing Michaela Kotaskova for the vacant WBO super welterweight strap earlier this year, but Mayer is among the best pound-for-pound fighters.
Mayer had an impressive amateur career as she represented the USA at the 2016 Olympics before turning professional.
Like many former Olympians, she is a technically superb fighter and has gone on to claim world titles in three weight classes since turning professional.
The 36-year-old has a win over Jennifer Han on her record and two successes against Sandy Ryan but she has been beaten twice, losing via split decision to both Alycia Baumgardner and Natasha Jonas in world title fights that took place in the UK.

Mayer is a deserved 2/5 favourite ahead of this high-quality match-up but taking the prices into consideration Cameron has to be considered a backable underdog as this bout looks a lot closer than the odds suggest.
Mayer has an impressive record but is not invincible having been outpointed by both Baumgardner and Jonas previously. She was arguably unfortunate in both contests as she lost via split decision, but Cameron has only lost to Taylor and she also has a win over the Bray Bomber on her CV - an achievement that eclipses any of Mayer’s successes even if the American has largely campaigned at a higher level than Il Capo.
Cameron and Mayer are both fighting at super welterweight for just the second time in their careers and the Briton made the step up to this class by bypassing welterweight, whereas Mayer fought three times at that limit before her move up. That shouldn’t have a huge impact on this contest. However, activity could be a factor as Cameron beat a previously unbeaten opponent earlier this year, while Mayer last fought in October and her last test against an elite fighter came in March of 2025 when she beat Ryan for a second time.
There is no escaping the fact that Mayer is the technically better boxer with a superior ring IQ to Cameron.
The American is a boxer-puncher with a solid jab, but Cameron’s high-pressure style gives her a real chance to pull off a minor upset on Saturday night at the bp pulse LIVE Arena.
Cameron also has the benefit of home advantage, and if she can keep the pressure on Mayer over the course of the 10 rounds she has the ability to grind out a win.
Cameron is 7/4 to win by any method and it could be worth pushing this bet a bit further and taking the Briton to win on points at 3/1. Mayer has never been stopped or even knocked down in her professional career and Cameron’s last eight wins have all come on points, with her last stoppage coming back in 2021.
