bet365's boxing expert Rob Tebbutt provides his betting insight as Great Britain's Hamzah Sheeraz vies for the WBC middleweight world title against Carlos Adames in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Hamzah Sheeraz challenges Carlos Adames for Adames’ WBC world middleweight title on the Beterbiev vs Bivol 2 undercard in Riyadh.
Sheeraz enters the bout in ferocious form, having stopped his previous 15 opponents in a stretch going back to December 2018, while defending champion Adames has lost just once in his 25 professional contests, boasting some respectable wins on his resume.
However, a big factor here, for me, is going to be the size difference. Sheeraz, at 6ft 5ins is a monster of a middleweight and has really grown into his frame in recent years. Adames, meanwhile, is more suited to the super-welterweight division, where he campaigned until moving up to 160lbs in 2021.
Even in Adames' bouts at middleweight, he has faced smaller men moving up. As is going to be the case with any of his future opponents at this weight, Sheeraz’s size is a huge factor.
Adames is a tricky switch-hitter with good power, but I feel this is a bad style match-up for him.
He has a low lead hand and is too easy to hit and he has also slowed in the second half of previous fights.
I can see Sheeraz being too big, too long and catching Adames on the end of shots — after that, I think it’s a matter of how long Adames can hold up to the power.
Sheeraz is a spiteful puncher with a punishing jab and I’m expecting him to make a real statement in this fight.
