Canelo Alvarez gets set to take to the ring for the 67th time in his professional boxing career on Sunday morning, taking on William Scull.
A pound-for-pound great, Alvarez has fought in every calendar year since his boxing debut in 2005.
He defeated Edgar Berlanga last time out via unanimous decision, and while he’s won all of his last five bouts, people are starting to question his knockout ability.
A TKO victory over Caleb Plant was the last time a fight of his was stopped before the 12th round, but he should have no problem dispatching of Scull.
It’s unsurprising that there’s a whole host of names queuing up for a shot at Alvarez. From internet sensation and boxing newcomer Jake Paul to the highly rated Chris Eubank Jr, the Mexican certainly isn’t short of options.
A name that seemingly won’t go away however is Terence Crawford, and that would no doubt be a fight that the boxing world would love to see.
When speaking to Fight Hub TV, Crawford dismissed any suggestions that he has one eye on a bout with Crawford.
He said: “I don’t have other fights in the future, I just have my fight with Scull and that’s it.
I focus 100% on that fight because you know, I’ve already been in this positions a lot of times.
“When I have a fight a fight they're always asking me for other fights so nothing new for me but you know I focus 100% on the fight on Saturday and that’s it.”
A sign of encouragement for boxing fans is that Alvarez didn’t rule out a future fight with Crawford, though he did underline the importance of his fight with Scull.
With the rumours of a potential fight between Alvarez and Jake Paul slowing down, the former super middleweight undisputed champion of the world also proclaimed that the fight was “not that close” to happening.
