Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn get set to go head-to-head at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 26th April, and there is a lot more than just pride on the line.
Aged 35, Eubank Jr is at a defining stage in his career where he has to be teeing up a championship fight.
Conor Benn on the other hand has fought just twice since April 2022, and Eubank Jr will undoubtedly be his toughest challenge yet.
While Eubank Jr can’t underestimate Benn, there is no doubt that he will have one eye on a shot at Canelo Alvarez if he is to emerge victorious at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Promoter and CEO of BOXXER Ben Shalom has had his say on the prospect of Eubank Jr stepping into the ring with Alvarez when speaking to Sky Sports.
I think it’s realistic. I think for Chris it makes sense.
“I can't see Conor Benn against Canelo personally - maybe that's where Turki is giving away really who he thinks perhaps might win this fight.
"Eubank against Canelo is the fight Chris wants. This is a two-fight deal against Conor Benn, you'd expect one to happen now and one possibly in October, and then it's the big one against Canelo.
"That will ultimately be the dream fight we want and that's a fight His Excellency (Turki Alalshikh) can make as well, so for Chris that's certainly the next opponent we want."
Neither Eubank Jr or Benn can afford defeat, for their careers nor their legacy, but Shalom appears to think that Eubank Jr has more on the line.
In the event of a defeat for Eubank Jr, he said: “You'd have to go back to the drawing board I think, if we're honest.
"Chris is in years where he really has to make it count. To not beat Conor Benn would be a travesty and so the pressure is on.
"We have the dreams of fighting against Canelo and fighting for world titles, so Chris has to get through Conor Benn.”
