Whittaker silenced his growing doubters when dismantling Liam Cameron in an eagerly anticipated rematch in Birmingham on 20th April, with the 'Surgeon' prevailing via TKO in the second round of the contest.

Whittaker's promoter Shalom has now started hypothesising future plans for one of his star fighters, telling talkSPORT:

We're going to headline in September, back in his hometown [of Birmingham] again.

Shalom, who also promotes boxers including Chris Eubank Jr, Adam Azim and Caroline Dubois, has earmarked three domestic rivals as potential next opponents for Whittaker.

"In the domestic light-heavyweight scene, it is decent over here. You have got Lewis Edmondson, you have got Dan Azeez, you have got Willy Hutchinson," Shalom said.

"They will be queuing up, he [Whittaker] is the biggest payday in the division," he added.

The Olympic silver medallist faced widespread criticism following his original fight against Cameron in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in October 2024, with the contest ruled a draw after both boxers ended up toppling over the ropes in the sixth round and Whittaker claimed to have hurt his ankle.

Many boxing fans were sceptical over just how injured Whittaker was, with the underdog Cameron giving him a tough time in the ring.

This controversy made the rematch in Birmingham a tantalising prospect, with a refreshed Whittaker, under the guidance of a new head coach in Andy Lee, capable of flipping the script.

Appearing far slicker and more dangerous, Whittaker ultimately proved too hot to handle for Cameron who was stopped in the second round.

Despite Whittaker's much improved performance, this rematch again did not pass by without controversy with many spectators feeling referee Howard Foster stepped in too early to wave Cameron off.

27-year-old Whittaker is unlikely to be bothered by any question marks over this decision as he prepares to take the next step in his fledgling professional career, with a domestic dust-up perhaps next up for the Briton.
