Amanda Serrano v Cheyenne Hanson Prediction and Tips

Amanda Serrano defends her WBO featherweight title in El Paso on Saturday night against the in-form but untested Cheyenne Hanson at the County Coliseum.

Serrano and Hanson’s bout will be contested over 10 three-minute rounds, rather than the usual two minutes that remains the standard in women’s boxing.

The Real Deal has led calls for females to be allowed to box under the traditional men’s timings and she’s now had a couple of contests under these conditions, whereas all of Hanson’s previous bouts have been over two minute rounds.

Amanda Serrano v Cheyenne Hanson Tips Preview

Amanda Serrano is one of the superstars in women’s boxing as a seven-division world champion and she is a huge 1/35 favourite ahead of her defence against Hanson.

The Puerto Rican is a seven-division champion with a 48-4-1 record. Three of those defeats came in a trilogy with Katie Taylor and in truth she is incredibly unlucky not to have a win over the Bray Bomber on her record, although Taylor’s win in the third fight was conclusive.

Serrano has some huge wins on her CV including successes against the likes of Yamila Esther Reynoso in a contest where she jumped up to super lightweight, an undisputed showdown with Erika Cruz, a stoppage over Daniela Romina Bermudez and a comprehensive points win over Sarah Mahfoud.

Since her last defeat to Taylor, Serrano comprehensively outpointed the previously unbeaten Reina Tellez and the only non-Taylor loss on her record came way back in 2012 against Frida Wallberg.

Cheyenne Hanson is a 11/1 underdog and a win for the German would represent a huge shock. The Augsburg fighter is facing a significantly higher standard of opponent than she is used to - but she is in form and boasts impressive power.

Hanson has two defeats on her record but the last of those losses came in 2021. Since then, Pepper has embarked on a nine-fight winning streak and seven of those victories have come inside the distance.

The 28-year-old Bavarian has a stoppage rate of over 76%, although she is largely untested at the very highest level and Saturday’s bout sees her make a US debut.

Amanda Serrano v Cheyenne Hanson Top Tips

Over 5.5 rounds @ 8/11

Amanda Serrano is the overwhelming favourite and she’s just 1/3 to win this bout by KO, TKO or DQ. The Real Deal should win and she may be able to engineer a big finish against an opponent who is fighting for a world title for just the second time in her career, but Hanson may be able to make this more competitive than the prices suggest.

The German has never been stopped and Pepper carries a serious amount of power herself, so Serrano can’t afford to take too many risks early on and may take a patient approach with Hanson.

Serrano has 31 stoppages on her own CV but 11 of her last 12 fights have all gone the full distance, so we should reach the second half of this bout even if it does look like a bit of a mismatch.

Amanda Serrano to win in rounds 9-10 @ 8/1

Serrano has admitted one of her remaining goals in boxing is breaking Christie Martin's all-time knockout record and Hanson does look like an opponent she should be able to beat inside the distance, either through raw power or just sheer volume of shots landed.

Serrano is one stoppage shy of matching Martin’s 21-year-old record and she should go searching for a finish right until the latter stages of this fight even if she is way ahead on the scorecards.

As such, backing Serrano to force a stoppage in the final six minutes of this contest stands out as a good option as an outside bet as Hanson looks tough enough to reach the latter stages of this bout.
