300/1 Blowers becomes biggest-priced winner in UK history

Blowers became the biggest-priced winner in UK racing when taking the opener at Exeter at 300/1.

Beaten 69 lengths in his point-to-point before pulling up on racecourse debut at Chepstow, Nigel Hawke's charge ground it out alongside On The Bayou in the finish.

Sent out to lead under James Best, the five-year-old ploughed through the heavy ground whilst others toiled in behind him.

Locked alongside On The Bayou over the last, favourite backers must have thought it was a matter of time before he went past but Blowers was not for passing.

Blowers becomes the biggest-price winner in UK racing history, eclipsing a 35-year record previously held by Equinoctial who won at 250/1.

Trained by Michael Dods, Equinoctial arrived at the Scottish track off the back of four starts under rules that saw him pulled up twice, fall and get beaten 62 lengths at Hexham.

Equinoctial came clear by three-and-a-half lengths up the run in to record a highly improbable success.

There have been 14 occasions in UK racing where a horse as won at 200/1.

Ireland has seen two winners land 300/1 odds in the past.

Most recently, Sawbuck cruised to victory at Punchestown in 2023 and he jointly holding the Irish record with Luke Comer's He Knows No Fear after he won at Leopardstown three years prior.
