Best Polish goalkeepers to have played in the Premier League

Lukasz Fabianski's departure from West Ham sees one of the Premier League's longest-serving goalkeepers leave the division.

After struggling to break through at Arsenal, Fabianski established himself as a solid Premier League stopper, following in the footsteps of a number of his compatriots, many of whom impressed between the sticks in England.

Below, we look at the five best Polish goalkeepers to have played in the Premier League.

5 - Tomasz Kuszczak

Despite a string of impressive performances, Tomasz Kuszczak was unable to save West Brom from relegation, but did earn the move to Manchester United to serve as Edwin van der Sar's understudy.

Vying with Ben Foster for the number two spot, Kuszczak made 61 appearances for Manchester United across five seasons before dropping into the Championship for spells with Watford, Brighton, Wolves and Birmingham.

4 - Artur Boruc

After impressing with Celtic, earning the gloves as Poland's number one, Artur Boruc made the move to Italy with Fiorentina before joining Premier League Southampton.

Boruc spent two years at St Mary's, helping the club to an eighth-place finish before joining Bournemouth, with whom he won the Championship at the first time of asking, spending two more years as the clubs first-choice stopper.

3 - Wojciech Szczesny

At the start of his Arsenal career, it was hard to see Wojciech Szczesny going on to inherit the gloves from Gianluigi Buffon at Juventus but that's exactly what he did.

Szczesny grew into the role at Arsenal, becoming number one at 21 years of age, making 132 Premier League appearances before joining Roma in 2015.

2 - Jerzy Dudek

While he was prone to the odd clanger, Jerzy Dudek was an outstanding shot-stopper on his day, capable of pulling off remarkable saves.

Dudek's first season at Anfield coincided with their runner-up finish in the Premier League, going on to spend four years as Kop number one.

Dudek was the keeper for Liverpool's 2005 UEFA Champions League final win over Milan, and while his miraculous save forced a penalty shoot-out, it was Dudek's heroics that took them to the trophy - even if he was an inch or two off his line...

1 - Lukasz Fabianski

Nicknamed 'Flappyhandski' once upon a time owing to his unconvincing performances, Lukasz Fabianski never quite looked like taking the gloves from Manuel Almunia. Indeed, Fabianski was then overtaken by compatriot Szczesny, prompting a move to Swansea.

Fabianski would get a first crack at being number one in south Wales, an opportunity he grabbed with both hands.

So good was Fabianski with Swansea and Poland, he kept the number one spot off Szczesny at Euro 2016 following the latter's return from injury.

Fabianski made 149 from a possible 152 appearances for Swansea in four years, winning the club's Player of the Year. Following their relegation from the Premier League, Fabianski moved to West Ham where he made 195 appearances in seven years.
