There have been some unexpected British boxing rivalries in the 21st century.

Carl Frampton v Scott Quigg, Carl Froch v George Groves and David Haye v Tony Bellew.

We can now add Ben Whittaker and Liam Cameron to that list.

The two light-heavyweights may not be fighting for world titles or their legacy on the night of Saturday 20th April, 2025, but in the case of Olympic medallist Whittaker, especially, a win over Cameron is vital for his career.

But who will reign supreme?

Before we find out, it's time to take a look at the 'Tale of the Tape'.

Ben Whittaker - In Profile

Ben Whittaker v Liam Cameron 2 is more than just a rematch - it’s an open display on what ceiling the Olympian can reach.

His unconvincing start as a professional and divisive personality leave Whittaker playing the villain for the time being.

The showboating and disrespect we have seen from him against opponents he has been expected to brush aside have left a bitter taste in the mouths of many.

So, when he and Cameron tumbled over the ropes in Riyadh last October sympathy was difficult to find for the Wolverhampton man.

Saturday 20th April has to act as the showman’s redemption.

Hiring the services of esteemed trainer Andy Lee could be the best decision Whittaker ever makes in his career.

Lee is a renowned and well respected boxing mind whose reputation as a cornerman continues to soar.

If he can contain Whittaker and manage him to a level of performance where the fun and games are cut back a tad, then we may finally see the emergence of a bona-fide British star.

It may come down to Whittaker’s relationship with the public, however, and how he chooses to address it.

Many Olympians have failed to hit the heights in the pro ranks and Whittaker is already looking like another.

Hopefully he can prove his doubters wrong and let his boxing do the talking.

The career of Liam Cameron is one that could be picked up by Netflix and turned into a compelling series.

Everything he has been through has brought him to a stage where he will now headline against Whittaker, live on Sky Sports, having already received the boosting bonus of signing to Frank Warren and Queensberry Promotions.

Cameron’s Yorkshire grit and disdain for Whittaker make him a problematic foe who won’t want to suffer another defeat, but he knows he has far more to gain with a victory than his opponent.

Inadvertently reenacting a WWE move with Whittaker has changed the course of his career but Cameron must ensure that is not just his 15 minutes of fame, but instead the continuation of a different type of Rocky-esque story which still has some running time remaining.
