Ben Whittaker will be keeping a close eye on Joshua Buatsi vs Willy Hutchinson this weekend, with the winner mooted as a potential option for 'The Surgeon'.
Love him or hate him, Whittaker has rapidly made a name for himself as one of the most entertaining fighters in British boxing -- renowned for his unorthodox in-ring style.
He suffered the first blow of his professional career when drawing to Liam Cameron in October 2024, but he emerged victorious via TKO in the second round of the rematch.
Four of Whittaker's last five victories have come via way of knockout -- with his most recent unanimous decision win over Conor Wallace proving one of his toughest bouts to date -- and the West Midlands-born entertainer is now eyeing a high-scale light-heavyweight fight.
Whittaker's promoter and Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn was questioned by iFL TV's Kugan Cassius if he would be willing to throw the 29-year-old in with the winner of Joshua Buatsi vs Willy Hutchinson.
He replied: "100%. I've already spoken to George Warren about that. Ben Whittaker is looking to fight in February or March time. He loves the winner of that fight."
Buatsi and Hutchinson locked horns at Wembley in September -- where the former emerged victorious via split decision -- but there is even more on the line this time, with the WBC light-heavyweight title up for grabs following David Benavidez's move to the cruiserweight division.
This means that, in the event that an agreement is reached for Whittaker to lock horns with Saturday night's winner, 'The Surgeon' would be fighting to become a world champion in just his 15th professional bout, providing that he doesn't have a tune-up fight.
The winner of Buatsi vs Hutchinson is not the only option for Whittaker, however, with multiple Brits mooted by Hearn.
He added: "We've also talked about British guys, whether that's [Lewis] Edmondson, [Lyndon] Arthur, [Anthony] Yarde.
"[Yarde] is actually a fight that is top of his list. I think that's a brilliant fight.
"But of course, he wants to fight for the world title and if we could get a shot at the winner of this weekend I think it's a good fight."
