NRL: Bellamy admits Storm got lucky

Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy admits his side may have got lucky after sealing a dramatic golden-point win over South Sydney on Thursday night.

The Storm are priced at 15/4 to win the 2022 NRL grand final and now have two wins from two following the 15-14 victory over the Rabbitohs at AAMI Park.

Thrilling fightback

The Storm looked to be cruising to victory as they lead 14-0 with just 12 minutes on the clock but Souths came fighting back to level matters at 14-14 to take it to extra-time.

Ryan Papenhyzen spared their blushes with a drop goal to win it in the 83rd minute and Bellamy admits he is not quite sure how his players pulled it off.

Papenhuyzen determined to bounce back

They were not helped by Tepai Moeroa and Justin Olam being sin-binned and his side missing 40 tackles throughout the game.

"We just couldn't seem to get any decent ball or do much with it," he said. "I think we only completed one set in the last 20 minutes of the game so we were under pressure and then for 20 minutes we were a man short.

"I'm not quite sure how we got there at the end; got lucky I guess."

Demetriou proud of fightback

Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou was disappointed but proud of the way his players battled back and took the game to the wire following a one-sided first half.

"I'm pretty proud of them. At 14-0 down and with a 50 per cent completion rate in the first half that game could have gone anywhere," he said. "The players were keen at halftime to get out and right a few wrongs and we did that."
