Bayern Munich reportedly progressing in talks to sign Man City target Florian Wirtz

Bayern Munich are reportedly entering the final stages of negotiations to sign Bayer Leverkusen forward and Manchester City target Florian Wirtz.

Bundesliga

It’s no surprise to see the German attacking midfielder attracting interest from some of Europe’s giants after recording double figures in goals and assists in the Bundesliga.

While Manchester City and Real Madrid are reported admirers, it’s Bayern Munich who seemed to have made the most progress in signing Wirtz.

Miguel Delaney of the Independent believes that the Bundesliga champions are the frontrunners at this stage.

Bayern Munich are entering final negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen on a fee for Florian Wirtz, having stolen ahead of Manchester City and Real Madrid in the race for the attacking midfielder.

Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich are of course Bundesliga rivals, having battled it out for the title in the two previous seasons.

The 2023/24 campaign saw Xabi Alonso’s side come out on top, becoming the first Bundesliga outfit to go a season without recording a defeat. Bayern enjoyed a successful first season under Vincent Kompany however, regaining the league title in the 2024/25 term.

Wirtz may be tempted to extend his stay in Germany’s top flight, but he could be set to trade Leverkusen for Munich.

The Independent added that “while Leverkusen would prefer to sell to anyone other than Bayern, Wirtz's personal preference is understood to be Munich.”

“International team-mates in the Bayern dressing room” are reportedly “convinced that he will be joining them.”

While Munich seems the most likely destination for the 22 year old at present, Pep Guardiola’s Man City can’t be ruled out just yet.

An underwhelming campaign for the Citizens means they are likely to heavily invest in the summer, to give Guardiola the best possible chance to reclaim the Premier League title.

Kevin De Bruyne is set to be leaving the club at the end of the season, and Wirtz has been mooted by many as the ideal profile to replace the Belgian.

Irrespective of where Wirtz ends up, he won’t come cheap, with an estimated price tag of €100m placed on the highly-rated German.
