Bayern Munich are 1/2 to regain the Bundesliga crown they relinquished to Bayer Leverkusen after unveiling Vincent Kompany as their new manager.
Following a series of rejections in their search for Thomas Tuchel's successor, Bayern set their sights on Kompany, who had spent the previous two seasons with Burnley.
It's a major step for the Belgian, who was unable to prevent the Clarets relegation from the Premier League this term and pressure will be on Kompany from the start as he aims to restore Bayern at the head of German football.
With Tuchel's departure announced in March, the Bavarian outfit had unsurprisingly targeted the man who had undone their Bundesliga supremacy, Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso.
The Spaniard conjured the first undefeated season in the history of the Bundesliga but Bayern were unable to get the man, with Alonso rejecting their approach in favour of remaining at the BayArena.
There was further refusals from Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick as both individuals opted to stay at their respective international posts.
Bayern eventually looked at Kompany in a bid to end their chaotic recruitment process and negotiations moved swiftly, with the German giants set to pay Burnley £10.2million in compensation.
Kompany has put pen to paper on a three-year deal at the Allianz Arena and will be accompanied by Floribert Ngalula and Bram Geers in his backroom staff, though assistant Craig Bellamy will not be joining him in Munich.
Though the former Manchester City captain has been mocked after a Premier League campaign in which Burnley picked up just five wins, there is excitement within the Bayern board that Kompany's methods can ignite a fruitful rebuild.
The 38-year-old certainly has all the tools at his disposal and it's likely that he will be backed in the summer transfer window.
Suffering a first trophyless season since 2011/12, the expectation will be to retain the Bundesliga title next term. It will be fascinating to see if Kompany can be the man to orchestrate that, or whether Bayern find themselves in an identical scenario in 12 months time.
