The Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays will battle it out in this year’s MLB World Series for the chance to win a first title.
The first game of the best-of-seven series will take place in the early hours of Saturday morning at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
Best Bet - Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 @ 11/10
Alternative Bet - William Contreras to win World Series MVP @ 13/2
Alternative Bet - David Hamilton to steal the most bases in series @ 17/2
Best Bet: Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 @ 11/10
In the context of a looming dispute between MLB owners and players over a potential salary cap, two small-market, smaller-budget teams have made it to this year’s World Series.
The Milwaukee Brewers may not boast the financial might of the Los Angeles Dodgers but they wiped the floor with them in the National League Championship series, sweeping the big stars of LA in four games after beating the San Diego Padres 3-1 in the divisional series.
The Tampa Bay Rays’ route to this World Series was a little more complicated, with a battling 4-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians in the ALCS following a sweep of the New York Yankees in the ALDS.
The Brewers have home advantage in this World Series, with four of the potential seven games scheduled to take place at American Family Field, but Milwaukee could have things wrapped up before then.
Pat Murphy’s team had the best record in baseball this season and that came in a much tougher National League than the weaker American League.
In Jacob Misiorowski, the Brewers have a Cy Young favourite as their standout pitcher who is likely to get at least two starts while Aaron Ashby has been the leader in a solid bullpen. Their 2.03 ERA in the playoffs is ahead of the Rays’ 2.59.
Their core of Jackson Chourio, William Contreras and Brice Turang looks stronger than the Tampa Bay batting lineup too and their .739 postseason OPS is well clear of the Rays’ .649.
Along with having home advantage, the Brewers have had plenty of rest thanks to wrapping up the NLCS with a minimum of fuss and should be fresh for this series.
The Rays have fallen short in the World Series twice before, in 2008 and 2020, and may have to settle for the same fate again.
Take the Brewers to wrap this series up in a hurry and overcome the 1.5-game deficit on the handicap.
Alternative Bet: William Contreras to win World Series MVP @ 13/2
William Contreras has been one of the hottest hitters in a postseason which has been dominated by pitching and he is fancied to land MVP honours in this World Series.
The Brewers catcher ranks third in the playoffs with an OPS of 1.157 and only the New York Yankees’ Ben Rice has hit more home runs than his three.
Contreras has a solid record against the Rays pitching staff, with a .255 batting average against these opponents and plenty of success against Tampa Bay starter Nick Martinez, going five-for-18 against the veteran.
Take the big slugger to be the star of the show in this World Series.
Alternative Bet: David Hamilton to steal the most bases in series @ 17/2
Milwaukee Brewers’ speedster David Hamilton has made a big impact in this postseason, stealing three bases already.
He swiped 30 bags in the regular season and the Brewers’ small ball brand of baseball clearly suits him well.
For a player with such a specific role in this team, he makes plenty of appeal to steal the most bases in this World Series.
