Barcelona v Napoli: Predictions, Tips and Odds

Star strikers Victor Osimhen and Robert Lewandowski traded goals in a 1-1 Champions League last-16 first-leg draw between Napoli and Barcelona so Tuesday's return leg in Spain should be a fascinating contest.

Barca will be hoping to make the most of home advantage but Napoli's form has improved since interim manager Francesco Calzona took charge shortly before the first leg.

Barcelona v Napoli betting tips and predictions

Barcelona to win & both teams to score – 13/5

After winning Serie A last season, Napoli have had a chaotic 2023/24 campaign, summed up by their decision to sack manager Walter Mazzarri just a couple of days before the home leg against Barcelona.

Interim boss Francesco Calzona, who also manages the Slovakia national team, has made a promising start, taking eight points from his first four league matches in charge.

That haul includes a 6-1 rout of struggling Sassuolo and a 2-1 home win over Juventus, sealed by Giacomo Raspadori's 88th-minute winner.

However, knocking out Barcelona in Catalonia may be a step too far for a Napoli side who have kept only one clean sheet in their last 10 matches.

The return to full fitness of star striker Osimhen is clearly a boost and he scored a terrific equaliser in the home leg, albeit with Napoli's only shot on target.

Barcelona have had a frustrating record in Europe under Xavi and they will be determined not to let slip a good opportunity to reach the quarter-finals.

They have kept three clean sheets in three La Liga matches since the first leg, beating Getafe 4-0 and Mallorca 1-0 at home, but their defence may not have such an easy time on Tuesday.

Before that run of league shutouts, both teams had scored in eight of Barca's previous nine games in all competitions including a 5-3 defeat to Villarreal and a 3-3 draw with Granada.

Both of those results came at their temporary home ground, the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, so Barca's forwards may have to be on top of their game to see off Napoli in 90 minutes.

Robert Lewandowski to be first goalscorer – 4/1

Napoli's Nigerian ace Osimhen scored a crucial goal in the first leg but Barca veteran Lewandowski had landed the first blow in Naples with a clinical finish on the hour-mark.

The Pole was the most consistent attacking threat on the pitch in the first-leg encounter, with two of his four shots on target, and he can break the deadlock in the return leg.

Lewandowski should be fresh after a second-half substitute appearance against Mallorca at the weekend, when he set up youngster Lamine Yamal's winner.

Before that outing, he had scored four times in his previous five league starts and should relish another crack at the Napoli defence.

Juan Jesus to be booked – 2/1

Napoli have a fine disciplinary record in this season's Champions League, receiving only 11 yellow cards in seven games, but the tension of Tuesday's game could lead to some more rash challenges.

Centre-back Juan Jesus looks a likely card candidate in his battle with Lewandowski. No Napoli player has collected more bookings in Serie A than the Brazilian stopper, despite the fact that he has started only 16 of their 28 matches.

Jesus was cautioned in Friday's 1-1 draw with Torino, as well as in September's Champions League group-stage trip to Braga, and he may well find himself in more trouble against a stronger attacking unit this week.
