Brazilian icon Rivaldo won the coveted 1999 Ballon d'Or, ahead of treble winner David Beckham.
Rivaldo wasn't short of team honours himself, leading Barcelona to the Spanish title and his nation Brazil to the Copa America.
However, many believed that Beckham had a strong claim for the award that year, with the Englishman ultimately being voted second in the rankings.

Andriy Shevchenko was voted third on the list, after a strong season for AC Milan, while Gabriel Batistuta was fourth.
Rivaldo's Barcelona teammate Luis Figo was voted fifth, ahead of Beckham's Manchester United teammate Roy Keane.
Christian Vieri was next in the ranking, ahead of Juan Sebastian Veron in eighth, while there was also space for Real Madrid's Raul and Bayern Munich's Lothar Mattaus.
