We analyse the credentials and statistics of Austin 'Ammo' Williams and Patrice Volny as the two middleweight contenders get set to collide in an intriguing world title eliminator showdown in Orlando, Florida, in the early hours of Sunday 16th March, 2025.
Austin Williams' route to world title contention continues as he battles Patrice Volny at the Caribe Royal in Florida, in March.
The American star harbours world title aspirations, but knows he has to bounce back to winning ways against the dangerous fringe-contender, Volny, having been stopped by Hamzah Sheeraz in a one-sided bout last year.
The Canadian was unlucky to find himself on the wrong side of a split decision last time he fought in the United States, and will be determined to ensure that the same fate does not befall him for a second time.
It's a bout that carries huge significance, but which way will it go?
Before we find out, let's take a look at the 'Tale of the Tape'.

In 2019, Austin Williams turned professional with a reasonable degree of fanfare.
Having signed with Matchroom Sport, many observers believed the Houston-based southpaw was a future world champion.
Six years later though, it remains unclear whether ‘Ammo’ will fulfil his potential.
The 28-year-old has suffered well-documented mental health issues, which resulted in a short absence from the sport.
However, ‘Ammo’ showed great resilience to return to boxing, which is hardly surprising given the hardship he endured as a youth; the nadir of which was when his childhood home was under fire from gang members.
Despite his issues away from the ring, Williams generally looked the part inside it.
That was until he ran into Hamzah Sheeraz, on the Matchroom v Queensberry card 12 months ago.
The Briton was in control of the bout from early on and dominated the American en-route to an 11th round victory.
Given that Sheeraz subsequently struggled in his world title challenge, against Carlos Adames on the colossal 'Last Crescendo' bill, the defeat has not aged well.
If Williams is to make it to the pinnacle of the sport, it is imperative he handles a contender like Volny with relative ease.
Strengths | Weaknesses |
Upper body movement | Can neglect his feints |
Jab | Porous guard |
Hand speed | Stays in range too long |
Left cross | Throws from too far out |
Patrice Volny may not be a household name, but the Canadian can fight.
He demonstrated as much against Esquiva Falcao, the London 2012 Olympic silver medallist, who was heavily favoured when Volny proved to be his equal.
A clash of heads in the sixth round opened up a gash on the Brazilian, which brought the fight to a premature end and Falcao was lucky to escape with a split-decision victory.
Volny rebounded from that disappointment by stopping, former world challenger, Steven Butler, in the ninth frame.
It was undoubtedly the biggest win of his career and he will be hoping to build on that momentum against Williams.
The Canadian has spoken of his admiration for Ronald ‘Winky’ Wright, and the American was clearly an influence on his style.
The 35-year-old fights behind a tight, high-guard, waiting for the right opportunity to land counters.
While it is not the most crowd-pleasing way to fight, it is effective nonetheless.
This is a huge opportunity for him, and he will be determined to ensure that this potential final opportunity to propel himself into the world title equation, doesn't slip through his fingers.
