Talented juvenile Aureus continues to go from strength-to-strength after picking up another impressive victory at Tabcorp Park, Melton on Saturday night.
Second-up following a spell, Aureus was up against a quality field in the TAB Sapling Stakes (2YO Fillies), but put them to the sword.
It came on the back of a first-up win at Maryborough and star reinsman Greg Sugars believes they have a star on their hands.
The two-year-old is the daughter of Siliqua and Sugars is excited for the future.
“Siliqua was one of the first broodmares to take up residency at Larajay Farm when we first set that up, so we've looked after her for quite a few years now and this is the first foal of hers that was born there,” Sugars said. “And she's turning out to be quite a handy racehorse it seems.”

Aureus is trained by the wife of Sugars, Jess Tubbs, and they believe that a trip to New South Wales early in her career has proven to be beneficial. She came second in a race at Penrith and fifth at Menangle before returning to Victoria to score twice.
“I think it was the best thing for her, just the trip away from home,” Sugars added. “She learnt a lot from that experience and came home, had a break and this time around she's really taken a huge step forward.
“We are hoping she's going to be competitive in a lot of the good fillies' races later on in the year.”
