Atletico Madrid are reportedly targeting Liverpool's Andrew Robertson as their main priority at left-back.
In what has already been an action-packed transfer window for Liverpool, reports have emerged that Atletico Madrid are prioritising Andrew Robertson as their top target for the left-back position.
Fabrizio Romano took to ‘X’ to exclusively break the news.
EXCLUSIVE: Atletico Madrid top target at left back is Andy Robertson, appreciated internally as ideal candidate.
“Not an easy deal as Liverpool rate him highly even with Kerkez due to join the club soon.”
“Atleti have Robertson higher than Theo (Hernandez) on their shortlist at LB so far.
"At this stage of the summer window, Andy Robertson has made no decisions on his future yet.
"No talks on the fee will happen until player decides on options."
As clarified by Romano, Milos Kerkez is reportedly set to join the Reds in the summer transfer window, which would likely see the Scotsman drop to second choice in the left-back department.
While Robertson received a fair amount of criticism in the 2024/25 term, he played a vital part as Liverpool clinched their 20th Premier League title, levelling rivals Manchester United’s tally.
The overarching feeling amongst Liverpool fans prior to the start of the window was that Kerkez would be introduced, Robertson would remain as the club to compete for the left-back spot, and Kostas Tsimikas would be moved on.
With Atletico Madrid viewing Robertson as their main option for the left-back spot, the Reds may have to re-evaluate their stance in what is proving to be one of the club’s busiest summers in recent years.
With the signing of Jeremie Frimpong announced, and the arrivals of Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz expectedly imminent, the likes of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Harvey Elliot and Jarrel Quansah have been linked with moves away, and Arne Slot would no doubt want to bolster the squad further should them departures materialise.
