By Diego Simeone's extremely high standards, Atletico Madrid experienced a relatively disappointing campaign in 2023/24.
The club were knocked out in the semi-finals of both the Supercopa de Espana and Copa Del Rey, reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League and finished fourth in La Liga.
Two early results which summed up their inconsistency came back-to-back as they recorded a 7-0 victory at Rayo Vallecano and then lost 3-0 at Valencia.
In Europe, Atletico comfortably topped their group and came through a nervy last 16 tie with Inter Milan following a penalty shootout, but were then beaten 5-4 on aggregate by Borussia Dortmund.
Goalkeeper and club legend Jan Oblak played the most matches for Atletico Madrid during the 2023/24 season with a total of 54 appearances in all competitions.
