Arsenal take on Manchester City in Sunday's Community Shield, serving as the traditional curtain-raiser for the new campaign.
The fixture was initially contested by a variety of teams including a Professionals XI v an Amateur XI as well as the winners of the First and Second Divisions, though from 1930, the game has largely featured the winners of the league and the FA Cup.
Only Manchester United (31) and Liverpool (25) have played in the fixture more times than Arsenal (24), who have historically performed well in the contest.
Of their 24 appearances, Arsenal have been victorious 16 times with another title shared after their 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in 1991. Indeed, the Gunners have the second-best win ratio in the Community Shield with at 67% success rate, behind only Everton (73%).
As frequent FA Cup winners, Arsenal have featured in the Community Shield frequently over the last decade or so. Since 2014, Arsenal have played in five Community Shield fixtures and won all five, with three coming via penalty shoot-outs.

Arsenal's last Community Shield outing saw them draw 1-1 with Manchester City at Wembley when Leandro Trossard's 101st-minute equaliser cancelled out Cole Palmer's earlier effort to force a penalty shoot-out with the Gunners winning 4-1.
